luke breathed out a sign of relief. i followed him to the back of the car, where he opened the boot and pulled out his guitar. we sat on the hood of the car that whole afternoon, playing and singing and talking. my god, i loved him so much. i didn't want him to leave.
at lunch time, luke pulled out some sandwiches from the cooler on the back seat. we sat, eating in silence, holding hands the entire time. "so," luke said, when we finished eating, "we leave for america on wednesday." i frowned, shoving him. "what was that for?" he asked. i looked at him sadly, "i had almost gone a full half hour without thinking about it," i said quietly. luke pulled me onto his lap, resting his chin on the top of my head. "i'm sorry," he whispered into my hair.

at around 3, we decided to head back. as i was putting the cooler back into the car, luke started speaking. "wanna spend the night tonight?" he asked. "my parents are home, they've gone to visit my grandparents in the country, and my brothers went with them, they wanted to give me some time alone before i left. you don't have to, you know, if you don't- " "luke!" i said, clapping my hands in his face. he stopped talking, cheeks turning red. "i would love to," i said sweetly, standing on tiptoe to plant a kiss on his lips. luke smiled, relieved. he got into the car and drove to my place.
i felt my phone buzz in my hand on the drive home.
katrina: hey! :) how's the necklace?
i smiled at my phone. did everyone know about this but me?
how did you know?!
katrina: michael told me about it! luke's been talking about it for weeks!! :)
seems as though everyone did know.
