"today's been fun," luke said between bites. i nodded, my mouth full. "so tonight, i think mum wanted us to go out for dinner- as in just our family. is that okay?" i held up a hand in front of my mouth before responding. "of course," i said, "i don't own you." luke nodded, "yeah, i guess. want me to pick you up after dinner so that you could spend the night again?" i nodded, and took our plates into the kitchen, sending mum a quick text while i was there.

luke and i sat in the pool and watched the sunset. i tried not to think about the fact that this would be our last sunset together for a long time. i looked across at him, at that beautiful face, and wondered how it would feel being so far away from him.
"i'll text you, every day. every morning when you wake up, there'll be a text from me. i don't care about the times zones. i'll wake up at 3 in the morning if i have to," luke said with a determined look on his face. i smiled at him gratefully. "i love you," i said, "and i'm so proud of you." luke grabbed my hand in his, but said nothing.
