i was actually happy that i was at school while luke was away. i had something to distract me. i had something to take the focus off the sadness that followed me everywhere.

luke made good on his promise, texting me every day and calling when he could. on those rare occasions that luke did call, i was so happy. his voice had a way of making me feel as though nothing in the world was as important as the two of us.

looking through luke's instagram and twitter posted, i was filled with an overwhelming sense of pride. 5 seconds of summer were becoming more popular with every show that they played.

about once a week, luke would post a picture of us, or make a tweet about how much he missed me. it was so cute. sure, i got my fair share of hate, but luke was worth it.

those 6 months went by agonisingly slowly. luke was going to be back sometime in the first week of the winter holidays. i was kind of disappointed that he would be gone then- he would miss my 17th birthday. at least he would be back for his 19th. on the night of my birthday, i was laying on my bed, devouring a tub of ben and jerry's with kat, when a facetime call popped up on my screen. "it's luke!" katrina had said, scrambling to answer while i whipped all traces of ice-cream from my face. we facetime'd for almost 5 hours, and katrina and michael had done the same. "i feel bad for the hotel you're staying at. imagine their internet bill at the end of this month!" i had laughed. "i don't care," luke had replied, "i had to see my baby girl on her 17th birthday!" i fell asleep with a smile on my face that night.

when i reached that final week of term, i couldn't wait for it to be over. on the thursday before holidays, i was in maths, and began searching the web. i saw on twitter than a fan had posted a link to some footage from a show. i clicked it and put my headphones in.

the video was entitled 'luke's mystery lover?!' i smiled and clicked play. it was a bit hard to hear the video, considering all the screaming. but the girl who made it was smart enough to add in subtitles. i muted my headphones and read the words that slid across the bottom of the screen.

luke's voice filled my ears, and suddenly my smile got even wider. "listen up los angeles!" luke said, evoking yet more screams from the crowd. "this next song is called 'if you don't know.' a very special someone wrote it with me, and i hope you enjoy it!"

the boys were amazing live. i needed to go and see them when they came back home. once the song finished, i saw luke panting. "did you like that?" calum asked, and the arena erupted in cheers. luke smiled, "i'm glad you did! this next song, which is called 'wherever you are,' is dedicated to my gorgeous girl back home." god, he was amazing!

the crowd loved them. the atmosphere inside the arena was just electric. luke dedicated one more song to me- lost boy. i smiled when i saw that michael had dedicated the song 'close as strangers' to kat. he knew how much she loved that song. i quickly emailed her the link before the bell rang.

luke called me that night. i was so excited. i answered on the first ring, causing luke to laugh. "i thought you didn't like answering on the first ring, because you couldn't thoroughly enjoy your ringtone?" he asked playfully. i smiled replying that i would much rather hear my boyfriend's actual voice than a recording.

we talked for a bit. it was still wednesday for luke. "i'm leaving late thursday night, which is friday morning for. i'll be home saturday afternoon." i was so excited- only two more days! hearing luke's voice was like heaven for me.

we talked for another hour. i yawned into the phone. "what time is it?" luke asked me. i looked at the clock beside me and laughed. "one a.m." i replied, laughing softly. "you'd better get to sleep then," luke said. i sighed. "i love you." i could imagine luke's smile on the other end of the phone. "i love you too, tiahn."
