"Hey, uh, why are you crying?" I questioned my step-mother as I took my muddy shoes off.
"Y-your father... he passed away in a terrible car crash..." she stuttered back, choking on her tears.
I froze, I was horrified, shocked, miserable.
"Please tell me your joking! PLEASE!" I begged as tears started forming in the corners of my eyes.
"I wish I was a Selene, I wish I was," she muttered back, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.
Sorrowfully, I raced up the stairs, leaving her downstairs, I collapsed on my bed full of grief. I couldn't believe what my step-mother had told me. The only person that actually loved me, was dead, gone - forever.I tried to ignore the fact that I was in the middle of a breakdown and decided to pick what I was going to wear to Olympus. Taking deep breaths, I carefully opened my wardrobe and picked out 3 dresses to choose from: A long, elegant pastel pink dress, with a cover of nearly transparent fabric laying on top and pearls scattered around it, A short, white dress with blue and gold around the edges with a head piece similar to what Hermes had worn earlier and finally, a really long, dark green dress, with black laced around my chest. After what seemed like an eternity, I decided to go with the second option, I wanted to be fancy, but not too fancy.
I tried it on a did a mini fashion show in my room, I felt great, I forgot all about what happened an hour ago and I was having the time of my life. Unaware of the time, I realised it was 3:17 PM, I still had to get to the Empire State Building, which isn't really close!Sneaking past my grieving mother, I stole her white high heels and tried them on. Luckily, they fit, I confidently strutted out the doorway onto the depressing streets and acted as if I was a model on a catwalk. Logically, I called a taxi, and waited FOREVER! About 5 minutes later, the taxi driver arrived and I got in,
"Where to madam?" the driver instantly asked.
"Empire State Building, please," I politely answered, getting the money out of my purse.
"Coming right up!" the man chuckled, taking his payment.
He drove off and I sat in silence looking at the forest as we passed, suddenly petrified of what I saw lurking in the shadow of the woods.A wide beast, or hybrid, dashed through the arched trees as if it was following me from a distance. Hoping to distract myself, I checked my watch, 3:45 PM, panicking, I quickly asked, "Not to rush, but how long until we get there, I have a meeting with the gree- with my new boss in 15 minutes!"
I gave out a relived sigh, I nearly just blew out that I was going to meet some greek gods, "5 more minutes madam!" the taxi driver reassured.
Calmness washed over me, I completely forgot about the creature that was following us earlier, I looked back at the eerie woods, trying to spy something - nothing. It was gone.*5 minutes later*
"We are here madam! The Empire State Building, enjoy your day!" the driver smiled.
"Thank you, you too sir!" I smiled back.
Deep breaths Selene...deep breaths...I strolled in through the enormous doors - praying for the best.
