Am...am I... am I EARLY??? I had some major inspiration to write (and another bout of insomnia, which is when my creativity likes to hit hardest). I actually wrote most of the next chapter as well, but you're only getting this one out of me tonight. Hope y'all like it! <3 Artie

WARNING: this chapter is another heavy one. mentions of SA, torture, and some smut.

They were in the air for less than an hour. Malo had napped, leaned up against the flesh shoulder of her Zaštitnik the entire flight. It was as if the past nine years had never happened. She was at peace, even it would be short lived.

As they stepped onto the tarmac, Malo gasped. Over the trees that surrounded the airstrip, the tops of bright skyscrapers could be seen. She knew those buildings from a rogue book an agent had left in her medlab. They were in New York! Holding onto his metal hand, she jumped up and down enthusiastically.

"Do you see that, Zaštitnik?! New York! We're in New York!" she squealed excitedly.

A strangle look flashed through his eyes, as if he was trying to recall something. Miller and Izak, realizing the pair had stopped, quickly turned back to usher them into a waiting van. She pouted, losing the ability to stare at the view. They were shoved in the back, crouched next to a large motorcycle and two duffle bags, most likely filled with weapons.

Her soldier squeezed her knee, his way of checking that she was all right. Malo shrugged.

"I've never been to New York. It always looked so beautiful," she whispered sadly. Zaštitnik pulled her onto his lap, resting his head on hers as she curled into him. Once again, Hydra had taken away something that had brought her joy. She tried hard not to be mad at Izak and Miller – they were only doing their jobs – but it was difficult. They had joined this cult willingly, something she adamantly believed she did not do.

They were, therefore, nothing more than Hydra Agents. Even if they were much more kind than the rest and tended to look after her. She would no longer put her blind faith that these men would have her best interest at heart.

No, she couldn't let herself be blinded by a few nice words and basic human kindness. Paul Miller and Izak Pfeiffer were a part of Hydra. Therefore, she would no longer consider them friends. It was amazing to Malo that it took such a small thing (in comparison to what else she'd gone through) to come to this decision. You could say that this was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

Брзо се верује брзо се превари. {Quick to believe is quickly deceived.}

She wasn't sure where the old proverb came from, but she believed in it. From now on, she would be on guard for everyone. Even that nice redhead from last night that helped her find all the guards that had touched her. The only exception she would allow was the soldier next to her. The great Winter Soldier, Hydra's greatest asset and her protector. Her protector. Her Zaštitnik.

Four days passed and they were still in the safe house for the mission. Malo had spent a majority of the time locked inside the house, bored out of her mind. Izak and Miller took turns trying to entertain her while the Winter Soldier was out stalking their target. He checked in every hour and came to the safe house after 16 hours, only to rest for 4 before heading right back out. Still, Malo was grateful to be able to physically check him for any injuries. He always insisted on wrapping himself around her while he slept.

Well, four hours isn't sleeping, it's more like a long nap. But it was enough for the super soldier. Most days, he slipped out while she continued to rest. It was easy to sleep when enveloped by the strongest man she'd ever seen.
