Some serious conversation happening here. After this chapter there will be a bit of a time jump and we'll finally get to see the Avengers!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Mirjana woke in a cold sweat. Her body shook violently. She was sick with a fever. If she had to wager a guess, it was the start of an infection from their mock surgery a few hours ago. Bucky was already up, holding her trembling body close.

"Tell me what I need to do." His low voice was laced with concern.

"Water. Cold. Ice. In the bag, pills," she managed to say. He was off the bed in an instant. He tossed her the bag so she could find the pills while he gathered the water, a cold compress, and whatever little bits of ice were in the mini fridge.

"Here. I ran my hand under the cold water, too." Bucky placed his metal hand on the back of her neck, eliciting a moan out of Mirjana. She tossed back the pills and gulped down the small glass of water, loving the way it soothed on the way down her throat.

"Better?" he asked a few minutes later.

"M-hm."

She still shivered, but not as much. Her temperature was lowering, thanks to the ice, cool compress, and the metal arm. Bucky pulled her into his side, lips peppering her head.

"Good. Keep resting. I'm going out to find us a car while it's still dark."

"Wait-"

He brought their mouths together, relishing in the feeling of their lips against each other. She was momentarily distracted from the kiss, but it wasn't enough to forget she wasn't feeling well. Bucky pulled away, touching their foreheads together.

"Don't leave me, yet," she begged.

He shook his head. "It's now or never, miere. I'll be quick. You rest and get better. I'm not going to lose you now."

She swallowed her emotion. He was right. She wasn't feeling well, but they needed to get out of here by sunrise. Her being sick would be nothing compared to what would happen if they fell back into Hydra's hands.

"Be safe," she whispered, conceding to Bucky leaving. He nodded, and was gone out of the door.

Mirjana sighed and decided to read the newspaper to pass the time. She knew she ought to rest, but there was no way she'd be able to sleep worrying about her soldier. There was nothing in the paper about the "attack" on the triskelion, but that wouldn't last long. This issue was likely issued just before news got out. There was a tiny television across the room. The remote was on the nightstand, so Jana turned it on, flicking through the channels until she found a news station.

"...newest update from the Secretary of Defense. The person responsible for the horrific attack has been named as James Buchanan Barnes. He is a terrorist working alone and is thought to be armed and dangerous. If you see this man, contact authorities immediately. He has a metal left arm, shoulder length dark hair, blue eyes, strong build, and is roughly six-foot-two."

Mirjana shook her head, feeling a headache coming on. Bucky's face was splashed across the screen - she didn't have to see it clearly to know the shape of his face. He was definitely not working alone! Hydra was the one who controlled his every move.

"Again, if anyone sees this man, please call your local authorities immediately. He could be anywhere. It is believed he is heading south, possibly to escape to Mexico. He is trained in combat as a spy. Do not approach, as he is armed and dangerous."

Another news anchor appeared on the screen. "In related news, previously classified SHIELD and HYDRA files have been released, thanks to Natasha Romanoff, also known as The Black Widow. We have-"
