Heart racing, Malo swallowed. A watch ticking drowned out the sound of the occasional car tires that passed. Her heart beating in her throat was the only thing that overwhelmed every other sense. She stared out the window, trying to ignore the tension in the blacked-out SUV she was still sat in with Rumlow and two other Hydra agents. She gripped her thighs tighter as Rumlow shuffled to her side of the backseat once more. He had been taking pleasure in reminding her of what was at stake if the Winter Soldier didn't complete the mission at hand.

He must have eaten something with onions earlier, because that's all she could smell when Rumlow leaned into her personal space. He inhaled deeply, sending disgusted shivers down Malo's spine. This man was not only filled with unnecessary rage, but he oozed sleaze ball and creep as well. His hands had already invaded her bubble enough times that Malo wanted to smash his fingers.

Rumlow's nose grazed her cheek, sending bile up Malo's throat. "One day, that asshole is going to fail and not come back from a mission. And I'll be there to take his place. His mark on this world will be nothing compared to what I'll do." His tongue traced from her shoulder, up to her neck, and stopped just behind her ear. She tried to her damndest to become one with the door in an effort to get away. "I think I'll have to start with his precious toy. That'll distract him enough to make a mistake, don't you think?"

"I don't think it would be worth it," one of the other agents muttered from the front seat.

"I wasn't talking to you," Rumlow snapped.

"You read the reports of what he's done to those in the past. I'm telling you, Brock, it's not worth it to mess with the Winter Soldier. He's notorious for a reason."

"He's literally trained to kill. The deadliest man to have ever lived," the man in the passenger seat added. Their eyes never left the window, always searching for anything suspicious. Their words did nothing to stop Rumlow's roaming. Malo pressed her body into the door further. God, where was her Zaštitnik? She'd hoped the future would bring less harassment. Clearly that hasn't changed.

"Stop," she whispered when his hand slithered over hers on her thigh. Malo fisted her hand tightly to the point she knew she was breaking skin from her nails digging in so hard. Rumlow was determined to break her insolence. He groaned in frustration and yanked her hand to his chest. Peeling her fingers apart one by one, Malo struggled to hide her desperation for him to stop.

"Stop moving, bitch!" he ordered. Malo cried out when he nearly ripped her arm out of its socket. Rumlow grabbed the back of her head with his left arm, shoving her head forward while his right arm still held tight to hers, bent at an awkward angle in his lap.

"I told you to stop moving. This is your own fault," he seethed. Spit landed on her arm, but that was the least of her worries. A muscle in her shoulder was dangerously close to being torn. Her eyes filled with tears, despite her attempt to mask any emotion.

A sharp rapping on the window made him release her. Rumlow rolled the window down just enough for icy blue eyes to penetrate the dark vehicle. Night had fallen while they had been waiting. Malo's heart leapt when her eyes met her Zaštitnik's. His showed worry, flicking to where she rubbed her shoulder.

Rumlow's voice cut through the air. "Is it done?"

A nod.

"Good. Let's head back and wait to hear how truly successful you were. Get in the other car. Agent, drive."

Malo pressed against the door, once again trying to put as much space between them as possible. Guess she wasn't going to see her soldier until they got back. Thankfully, Rumlow kept to his side of the car. His door flew open before the car was even parked. The driver opened her door for her and led her inside the dark building. At the top of a staircase, she caught sight of Miller, relief coursing through her body.
