Song - Girl Of My Dreams - Guti

I don't necessarily want to be part of all this stuff with Hawkins lab so I ask Jonathan and Nancy if they can take me home and they agree. They tell me that they will see me later and they will update me at the end of the day via phone call.

"Hey y/n, you don't have to keep up the sleepover lie. I'm going to go home tonight because I thought it would take longer to get the information. I'll tell my mom that you got sick or something and we rescheduled." That kind of sounds like a lie so I just nod and get out and put my trust in her.

I get in my car and drive to Steve's house. For one I want to check on him and see how he is doing and I want to update him on all this upside-down shit.

I get there just in time because he is locking his door and walking to his car.

"Y/n is that you? What are you doing here? I didn't see you at practice today."

"Yeah I had some other stuff to take care of but I am here right now. Where are you off too?"

"I'm actually off to go get Nancy some flowers. I'm going to try and make things right between the two of us."

Nancy is of course off doing some secret shit but she told me she would be back at her house soon. She said they thought it was going to take longer to get the information so she was going to be going home and telling her mom that I got sick and we rescheduled girls' night for another night. I need to stall some time for Nancy to finish up whatever she is doing and get back home.

"Well let me go with you. I can try to help and walk you through what to say to her. I was just with her today so I kind of know how she's feeling and what she wants to hear."

"Alright. Hop in, y/l/n" So I do.

Steve pulls into the store's parking lot and we get out at basically the same time.

"What flowers does Nancy like? She likes flowers right? She likes roses right?"

"You are telling me that you don't know if your literal girlfriend likes flowers or not and which ones she does like?"

"No, no, I'm just being silly. I know she likes roses."

"Mhm."

"You are telling me that in the 2 days I haven't been to this store everything has been moved around to different parts of the store?" Steve argues with an employee.

"I'm sorry sir. What was it you were looking for?" The elderly employee questions.

"Flowers. Flowers, they were right here in the front of the store two days ago."

"Yes, you're right. I'm not sure, let me go ask someone." He gives a shaky smile and begins slowly, slowly walking away to 'find someone.'

"Forget it. You ready to go on a scavenger hunt y/n?"

"Ay ay captain." I salute and he just looks at me weirdly. "Pirates, scavenger hunt, x marks to spot. Come on!"

We do eventually find the flowers but seeming as we started at the front of the store and made our way to the back it took us a while. We were starting to think maybe we were going crazy and they never sold flowers at the store in the first place but then we found them. Smack dab right in the very back of the store. Why put it there, you may ask, who really knows.

Steve grabs roses which only deepens my suspicions that he really does not know what kind of flowers Nancy likes and just went the basic choice of most girls.

We buy the flowers and travel back to Steve's car where he lays the roses inside and joins me in sitting on the back of his car.

"So what do I say to her."

"Well, you should start it off by telling her that you've been thinking about the whole thing for a while. That will show her that you care and that it's been on your mind. Then tell her that you love her and that you are sorry. That will, one, put more pressure on her to say I love you back and, two, tell her that you're sorry. The whole sorry thing goes nicely with the I have been thinking statement because it shows the development from when you were convinced you did no wrong. Don't get me wrong I don't necessarily think that you did but it's not about what I think it's about what Nancy does."

"Okay okay, good plan. What do I say after that."

"That is where my advice dwindles. What you say next depends on if she is going to be a snot about it and brush everything you said off or accept your apology. If she wants to talk about it more or doesn't right that second. Just refrain from putting all or any blame on her because she will fight and she will flight."

"Yeah, okay, thanks. Will you go with me?"

"Duh, I planned to anyway."

The whole drive there I see Steve drive with one hand, the other hand resting on his leg, his fist clenching and unclenching out of nervousness. I don't bring it up because that would just kind of be mean of me so I stay quiet.

We pull up and get out of the car.

"So I will walk up there with you but it won't look too good on your part if I am standing with you during all of this so I will just hide around the corner."

"Smart plan."

As we begin to walk up the pathway to her door Steve begins practicing what he is going to say.

"Here we go... Listen... I've been thinking... I love you, I'm sorry."

"Good."

"No not good. I'm sorry? What the hell am I sorry for?"

"Steve. Y/n." A voice beckons the two of you from your right. "Are those for Mr or Mrs. Wheeler?"

"No."

"Huh." I sigh. It is not the time for Dustin's antics right now.

"Good." He rips the flowers out of Steve's hand.

"What the hell." I reach for the flowers but he holds them behind him and I am not looking for a wild goose chase.

"Hey, what the hell? Hey!" Steve starts.

"Nancy isn't home."

"But you said she was going to be home y/n?"

"She told me she was. She must have lied to me."

"Where is she?" He asks Dustin in hopes of getting an actual answer.

"We have bigger problems than your love life."

"Your right Dustin. I was wondering when you were going to seek help for your god awful timing." I smile passive-aggressively at him.

"Do you still have those bats." He ignores the insult and goes right back to questioning Steve.

"Bats? What bats?"

"The ones you beat the Demogorgon half to death with." I remind him.

"Yeah. The ones with the nails?"

"Why?" Good question Steve, good question.

"I'll explain it on the way."

"Woah woah woah tike. Out of the front seat. That is the big kid spot. You get the back if we are going to help you with whatever you need nail bats for." I smile and wave him to the back seat.

"Fine."
