1 YEAR AFTER MERLIN'S DEATH

-------------------------

Arthur sat in his chair near the window. he hasn't been the same since Merlin died. He's been depressed. Merlin was his best friend, his crush. he wasn't just sad because Merlin's dead. No, it's also because he realized that Merlin had magic.

Arthur had noticed some strange things happening when Merlin was around, but he never took notice before. but, the dragon-who's name he learned was Kilgharrah- said the young warlock is dead. at first Arthur was angry that Merlin has kept that secret from him since the beginning. but he talked with Lancelot-who knew his secret- about how Merlin was a sorcerer. Lancelot kept correcting him, saying that Merlin was a warlock, and apparently the most powerful one to ever walk this earth.

After some time of convincing Arthur that Merlin was a nice Warlock, he began to see how nice Magic can be. so, soon after Merlin's death, Arthur allowed magic back in the kingdom, he also said it was for Merlin's sake.

No matter how much Arthur tries to be happy, he can't. He puts on a fake smile for Gwen and his people, he does it brilliantly, but it's never real.

He's also gotten a new man-servant. he's better then Merlin in the working aspect, but not in anything else. He's not funny, he's not childish, he's not his friend.

The once strong and emotionless king is now a broken man. He always thinks that he needs his servant back, so he sits and waits for him at the window.

but he never comes.

2 YEARS AFTER MERLIN'S DEATH

-------------------------

It's been two years since the tragedy, and Arthur still sits at the window looking for Merlin.

He has noticed that there has been less attacks on Camelot once he let magic come back here. But there aren't many people who practice magic in Camelot.

His servant has been good, he was always on time for what he needed to do and he always got a good breakfast, but that never changed his opinion on this man. He wanted his old man-servant back.

No matter how many times Arthur said that he hated Merlin, he didn't mean it, and he never got to tell him how much he meant to him. He regretted that. He also regretted not telling Merlin how he felt.

Today Arthur had a council meeting with the knights of the round table, Morgana was planning an attack on Camelot. (it was close to the third year of Merlin's death. just FYI) "sire, we need to plan this attack" sir Leon sais as Arthur walks in the room, his man-servant behind him. "right, okay, so how about this" Arthur says, letting everyone know what's happening.

He continues his planning when someone runs into the room, "Morganas men have passed the border" the man says catching his breath. "thank you " Arthur says, dismissing the man. the man nods and runs off

"change of plan then" the king sighs and starts telling the men about how there going to cut Morgana off.

'i need Merlin know' was what Arthur was thinking at that moment.

3 YEARS AFTER MERLIN'S DEATH

-------------------------

Arthur looked out at the men beneath the cliff. there were way more then what he had, he knew he had no chance. even if he let magic help in the fight Morgana was to powerful. Gwain came over to Arthur and put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"i know we have no chance, but we will fight till we can fight no more" he said without his usual childish tone. Arthur nodded in reply.

Both men turned around and walked back to the camp. 'i don't think we can do this, i don't want to sacrifice all these men' Arthur thought. he went and sat down on the log close to his finest men.

"where's your man-servant?" Elyan asks the king. Arthur looks around, then shrugged "don't know don't care" he sais eating the 'food' in front of him.

please let us survive this, they all think at the same time, and that was the last thought they thought

for that night.

A/N: Hey guys, that chapter was just a little filler of telling you what it was like for Arthur without Merlin. *sad face*. but what happens in the next chapter, some of the ideas are from the co-owner, but the rest is from me.

i hope you will enjoy the rest of the story.

and the last part in this, the whole thing goes together, so don't just think that it was a mistake. its all one sentence.-alison
