11: The Epidemic

After the weekend, a new week of classes begins. The pupils resume attending class. Just before the session started, Arbulet and Liam arrived at the school. Due to an issue that occurred in their hotel room in the morning, they were almost late.

Rennard is noticeably absent. Adeline has been questioned by Vesper as to why Rennard wouldn't be present, but Adeline reveals that she hasn't seen Rennard over the weekend and doesn't know the reason either.

As soon as the professor entered the classroom, the professor started his lecture. As usual, the professor is addressing his students when a loud commotion from the city is heard. People are running and screaming in big crowds. The school's electricity was cut off.

While the school personnel investigates the situation, the kids are compelled to leave their classroom and remain outside. Arbulet, Vesper, Liam, and Adeline are making their way to the school field while strolling down the school hallway. Running over to them, Aria urged them to follow her. The group was led to a tall school tower by Aria.

The group has a good view of the city from the top of a large tower. There is a bizarre human-shaped figure shrouded in shadows. The figure is capable of conjuring eerie, destructive dark spells. Adeline saw Rennard hurling potions at the shadow figure in the city, but the figure was too high in the air.

It is also noted by Aria, who urges the group to exit the school premises and aid Rennard. Arbulet is able to discern the characteristics of the evil spell that the shadow figure has cast. Its appearance is comparable to the bacteria they found in Maia's clinic in terms of color and shape. The group hears this information from Arbulet. They will also require Maia's assistance, according to Vesper, who has spent a lot of time researching the bacteria. The group searched for Maia as they descended the tower.

When Vesper spotted Maia in the clinic, she informed her of the situation. Vesper eventually convinced Maia to assist Rennard in the city after some persuasion. They are not permitted to exit through the school gate, according to Maia. The group is told by Maia that if they wish to exit the school covertly, they can utilize the garden backyard. The group headed to the garden backyard without hesitation after approving Maia's plan.

The gang eventually departed the school grounds and hurried into the city after some time. Rennard was spotted on the roof. Rennard was enquired as to his activity by Maia. In response, Rennard said that he was attempting to hurl antidote potions at the shadow figure. Rennard was approached by Maia, who examined his antidote formula. Maia detects flaws in Rennard's potion, which merely serves to amplify the shadow figure rather than thwart it. Maia adds a couple compounds she is developing to treat bacteria to Rennard's potion.

A bad airwave was sent into the vicinity by the shadow figure. When the polluted air reaches her perfume, Maia notices that it is glowing. Maia speculates that the shadow figure is attempting to infect the public with its bacteria. To counteract the effects of microorganisms on individuals who breathed the bad air, Maia tosses one of her antidote perfumes.

Aria advises bringing the shadow figure to the ground so Rennard can use the antidote potion on it. Arbulet and Vesper declare that they will distract the shadow figure while attacking it with their weapons. Adeline intends to manufacture chemicals that will slow the shadow figure down. While Aria pulled out her wand and used a spell to call forth magical notes, everyone else went about their daily tasks.

The influence of the magical notes produced a thunderous music wave that reverberated across the city. As they heard this, the school personnel observed the situation in the city. The faculty of the school learned that several of their students had left the building to confront the shadow figure. Some of Aria's supporters started cheering for her as the students approached the school gate to assess the situation in the city.

In order to stop the shadow from wrecking the structures, Arbulet pulls out his school katana and slashes the figure's "hands." Vesper repeatedly throws her dual blades to distract the shadow figure. The shadow figure slows down as Aria gathers music notes and begins to fire them at it. Liam assists the people of the city in fleeing to safety and aids them by casting some protection charms.

Adeline has finally produced a slimy substance that latches onto elemental energy as Maia creates additional modified antidote potions. When Adeline tosses this substance at the shadow figure, the energy surrounding it becomes slimy and heavy. The figure is descending to the ground gradually. Rennard used this opportunity to spray the shadow figure with every antidote potion he had.

After making contact with the antidote potion, the shadow elemental energy that was around the figure dissipated. The figure's eyes began to blaze brightly red. It ascended to great heights before disappearing. After the battle, the party is worn out, and they see the city has been destroyed. Some bodies are buried beneath the rubble, and the structures are demolished.

Rennard: That was... Terrifying...

Aria: What was that... It had glaring red eyes before it disappeared.

Adeline: Those eyes showed me my fears in a glimpse.

Maia: Same for me. It must be messing with our minds.

Liam: I don't remember any monster looking like that.

Arbulet: So what now?

Vesper: Let's return to the school now.

???: You can't return to your schools now. We need you to come with us.
