CHAPTER 2:

Running to the bus, Charlotte realized she forgot to brush her teeth.

Her mouth tasted like a dead animal.

She put in a piece of cinnamon gum in her mouth, and proceded to chew. It burned her mouth, which was a relief in the cool winter air.

The bus drove up and she hopped in quickly to leave the brisk breeze behind, only to discover the bus windows were all open. She sighed, and closed all the windows. It didn't help much as the bus was already cold

She sighed again. Suddenly, the bus grew warmer. Charlotte was momentarily confused, then thought the bus driver must have turned the heat on.

As she sat alone on the bus, (the other students had yet to arrive,) she pondered how strange things seemed to happen around her, Charlotte Blackthorne.

For example, only last week she had persuaded her gym teacher for a free day. Others had tried and failed, but Charlotte had always been good at that kind of thing.

In fact, she was almost magically good.
