CHAPTER 16:

As predicted, Charlotte got almost four and a half minutes of sleep last night. Or, at least that's what it felt like. The tapping of the pebbles against her window weren't frequent enough to be a rhythm she could lull herself to sleep with. They were too fast for her to fall asleep between them. Charlotte thought this kind of thing only happened in books. And she wasn't sure if it was cute or annoying. Probably both. Eventually it stopped, but Charlotte still couldn't sleep. Seriously. It was like a bad music video.

She got out of bed, still asleep, and pulled on a shirt with some jeans and fell back onto her bed with a book. She heard her mom coming back and ran into the bathroom to brush her hair.

Mornings were chaos at the Blackthorne home. A mess of running up and down stairs. She ate breakfast then went upstairs to brush her teeth. Then downstairs to make a lunch as she hated school food with a burning passion. Then upstairs to grab some shoes. Then downstairs to run out of the house and catch the bus. All while trying not to step on the cat.

She almost didn't notice when Jonathan started walking to the bus with her. She groaned. "I am extremely tired thanks to you Mister." He smiled innocently, but it didn't fool Charlotte. She could see the mischief in his green eyes. "What are you talking about, and I swear I did not throw tiny rocks at your window last night." "What would give you the idea that someone was doing that?" "Just saying. I would NEVER try such a way to get your attention. I would do something civil. Like this."

Charlotte started panicking. Why was his face nearing in proximity to hers. What is going on.

Then the bus came and honked. Scaring the crap out of both of them.
