CHAPTER 4:

The excruciating wait for the "secret" was over by lunch.

"Char, okay, remember how I said I had a surprise?"

Well, Charlotte thought, I've only been wondering what it is since the bus this morning.

"Yeah, I think so."

" Well, a reeeeally cute guy just moved in across the street from me!"

That meant down the street from her. Having a best friend two houses down was nice sometimes.

"Which one?"

"Actually, I think it's the one next door to you."

That house has been empty since the Lightwoods moved to New York a couple of months ago.

"What does he look like?" Charlotte was curious. Most guys she'd met were gross and obnoxious. She suspected cootie involvement.

"Well, like- THAT!!"

She pointed to a guy leaving the line. Longish, dark brown, almost black hair. Taller than her. Piercing eyes scanning the tables.

Melly waved over to him. Charlotte glanced at her, inquisitively. She gave her the signature "sad and pitiful" look.

"He needed somewhere to sit. He shouldn't have to sit alone in his first day." She pouted again. They both knew it was because of his looks. She was having to physically restrain herself from yelling out "YOU SIR, YOU ARE ATTRACTIVE, COME HERE SO I CAN EXAMINE YOUR EYES TO SEE IF THEY ARE GREEN OR BLUE."

She did however, smile and gesture to an empty seat when they made eye-contact.

He began walking over. Charlotte was filled with excitement.

Then he went to another table.

Melly sighed.

"Oh well. We can give him a tour of the neighborhood later."

But Charlotte wasn't listening.

She was staring at the new boy.

And he was staring back.

He winked at her.

She blushed.

Guys.
