CHAPTER 19
"Um, just one." Charlotte said. On the inside she was flipping out, but on the outside, she was deathly calm. "How long before people start trying to kill us, exactly?"
He considered it. "Welllllllllll, I'd say about, a day? If we're really lucky, two?" Charlotte blanched. "T-two days?!" He considered. "If we're insanely lucky. We'll have to run for it. Go 'convince' your mom you're going on a field trip or something." Charlotte just looked at him, resigned. "How long?" He thought for a minute before saying, "how about you just say you're going in a semester long trip to 'broaden your cultural horizons'?"
She looked worried. "It'll take that long?" He apologetically "Maybe. I don't know. If we get back earlier, you can say 'I didn't like it.' But if the queen wants you dead, we may never come back."
Charlotte's eyes widened even more. "Never!?" She whispered in disbelief. "But-". "There's no time. We have to GO Charlie. Tomorrow at school, we'll tell everyone that I'm moving back, and you've been chosen to go on the aforementioned trip. Okay?" Charlotte clenched her teeth and counted to five, thinking.
She looked at him, her last hope. If he betrayed her, what would she do?
She decided that she had no choice, despite having no reasons to trust him. Like at all.
She bit her lip.
"Okay."
