Each of them then placed their ID cards against the scanner, one by one, until it was eventually Alex's turn. He reached into his pocket, scanned his card, and swiftly turned around, accidentally bumping into the shoulder of a girl standing behind him.
She was rather short, was wearing vibrant clothes, and had dirty blonde hair of medium length.
"Ow!" She shouted as Alex was about to walk away.
"Oh- shit! I'm sorry, are you alright?" he asked, expressing great concern.
"You better watch what you're doing, asshole! Do you know who I am?!" The girl furiously asked as her face turned red.
"Uh-" Alex stuttered, "no... am I- supposed... to know who you are-?"
"Guuuuhhhhh!" She groaned. "Of COURSE you should know me! I'm Olivia Lopez!"
"I uh-" he laughed awkwardly, "I'm sorry miss but- I truly don't know who you are... haha..."
"Grrr..."
"Are you- growling at me?" Alex asked in disbelief.
"You don't get to question me, boy," she replied quietly, aiming a merciless death stare right into his eyes.
"Umm... okay," Alex replied as he then walked away in confusion, with everyone else's expression indicating a similar feeling. And so, he waited at the side, for the other few to finish scanning their ID cards, so they could all exit the hallway and head for the auditorium.
Eventually, they heard a soft beep from the card reader, followed by the doors opening by themselves, leading the group to look cautiously at one another, before nodding and proceeding down the hallway.
Alex decided it would be best to stay close to the people he had now become familiar with, those being Violet and Nathan. He stood to their side as they wandered down the dark, quiet halls.
The lights on the roof were weak, and the only noise they could hear was the soft buzzing sound that was being produced by them. Alex glanced around aimlessly while he walked with the others, taking quick peeks at the many rooms to their left and right, many of which looked exactly like each other. It was as if they were just wandering endlessly with seemingly no exit or true direction.
One question that kept popping into his mind was, where exactly was he?
It looked like a laboratory or research facility, but for what purpose? And why had cells been built? It was like a prison crossed paths with a facility, creating this ominous building without any windows or doors.
They couldn't even see outside. Not yet, at least. The rooms just kept on going, and it was beginning to make Alex feel highly uneasy and anxious for the next step.
It was very unsettling. Anything could be out there, and they'd have no idea because they couldn't see. They could even be underground, the absence of windows means they really have no idea. It's a mystery clouded in the darkness that surrounds them.
His stomach had tied into a knot as he was trying to comprehend where exactly they had ended up, and why they were there.
He felt an intense sense of dread building up in his chest, as he continued to look around and had yet to find a single window or different-looking room, it was like an endless maze of empty rooms.
It was all such a mystery to him, and the others as well.
They all looked just as puzzled as he did, as though the same questions were floating around in their heads too.
Hoping to ease the tense atmosphere, Violet cleared her throat and turned to Alex, asking "What *is* this place?"
"O-oh..." Alex stuttered in response, "you don't know either, huh? Haha..." he laughed nervously.
