*knock knock*
That was what Alex faintly heard as he slowly woke up, feeling very tired after already being abruptly awakened at 3 in the morning.
*knock knock*
It was a bit more vivid that time, as he stretched out his arms upon waking up.
*knock knock*
"Give me a minute..." he groaned as he forced his heavy body out of his bed.
He didn't stand up immediately, instead, he sat beside his bedside table and just started to think.
Of course, his thoughts flew straight to Dante again. He would never be able to forget that scene, what he saw after he had shot himself in the head.
It was a horrific image that had been burned into his brain, and whenever he came to mind, his lifeless corpse did too.
He wanted to deny it. He wanted to find the mental strength to outright deny it and write it off as fiction, but that was not possible.
Reality was harsh, and that was something that he'd come to learn from playing this death game.
Even calling it a game was harsh enough because this was no game.
This was a mental torture program.
*knock knock*
"Alright!" Alex shouted as he slouched over to the door, just barely finding the strength to unlock it with his cold hands.
Once he did, the person he saw was definitely not the last person he'd want to see, but, he wasn't exactly wanting to speak with anyone right now, not after last night.
"Adam," he greeted lazily while rubbing his eyes, "what do you want?"
"You are very welcome to decline but, can I request that you accompany me somewhere for a moment?" He asked with a forced smile on his face.
"What is it? Would I care?" he asked. "I'd rather lay down and cry right now."
"I imagine you would care," he guessed. "In fact, I imagine you'd care more than anybody."
"Why's that?"
"I- can't say here," he replied, taking a quick glance at the surveillance camera and speaker.
"I see," he chuckled lightly. "Fine. Whatever. Let's go."
He then begrudgingly stepped out of his room with his clothes from yesterday still on, as he couldn't be bothered to change after what had happened.
He couldn't stand the short silence that he shared with Adam, so he decided to try and start up a brief conversation, despite feeling rather tired.
"So..." he began, "uh, what's it like being a spy?"
"Heh," he laughed, "right to the point, huh? No subtlety?"
"Well, we all know so... no point in dancing around the subject."
"I suppose," he sighed. "Well, it's not an easy job, I'll tell you that."
"I'd assume it's pretty dangerous?" Alex guessed.
"Very dangerous, yes. You have no idea how many times I've almost died," he said in an oddly calm tone.
"Have you... killed anybody?"
"I try not to, but... yeah. It does weigh down on me a bit but, the silver lining is the fact that everyone I have killed were horrible people."
"What kind of people?" Alex asked.
