Ye Ming's mouth opened slightly, as if ready to speak, but quickly closed again. Words failed him, and for good reason. He wasn't prepared to face these three today—no, make that ever. Not all at once. The trio before him weren't just some random schoolmates. They were trouble, and not the kind you could ignore. He'd rather face them one by one, if he had to at all, but the universe wasn't so kind. Here he was, trapped by fate—or maybe just sheer bad luck.
It didn't help that their gazes felt suffocating. His clothes, though comfortably loose, now felt like they were shrinking by the second, clinging to him in all the wrong ways. His heart drummed against his ribcage, as though it was trying to break free. Ye Ming kept his posture calm on the outside, but inside, he was screaming.
What was worse was that Uncle Mu, the one person who could actually rescue him from this mess, was nowhere nearby. Safely tucked away at the Guard House, completely oblivious to the ticking time bomb that was Ye Ming's encounter with these three. Even if Ye Ming had the willpower to cry for help, his laziness wouldn't allow it. Opening his mouth felt like too much effort. Moving his tongue? Not going to happen. No, he was going to endure this—whatever "this" was—without lifting a finger.
Unfortunately for Ye Ming, his body didn't get the memo. In a sudden and unplanned surrender, his legs gave way beneath him, and he crumpled to the ground in a heap, his side hitting the cold, hard tiles with a quiet thud.
Jing Jian, Guang Kai, and Li Wei froze in place, eyes wide as they stared at Ye Ming's motionless form. His side profile, now exposed to them, showed a peaceful expression that couldn't have been more out of place.
To anyone watching, it might have seemed as though Ye Ming had fainted. But the truth was far simpler: his laziness had claimed him, and his brain had powered down like an overworked computer. It wasn't that he didn't care about the situation—it was just that his body had decided it was time to nap. Excessive thinking had left him utterly drained, and now, here he was, asleep on the cafeteria floor.
The trio, typically so composed, were in various stages of shock. Li Wei, the usual mastermind of manipulation, was at a complete loss. His eyes darted between Ye Ming's prone figure and his two companions, his hands twitching at his sides. He had never encountered something like this before. How was he supposed to respond to a guy who just... collapsed? What kind of strategy was that?
Guang Kai, ever the pragmatic one, recovered first. Known for his sharp mind and ability to act under pressure, he knelt down beside Ye Ming and, with surprising gentleness, lifted him into a bridal carry. His thoughts spun rapidly, calculating the consequences of what had just happened. Would anyone find out about this? What kind of rumors might spread? And most importantly—what would Ye Ming's family think if they knew he had passed out in such a public setting?
He glanced over at Li Wei and Jing Jian. They were still in shock, which was odd for them. These two were usually quick to act, especially when it involved someone like Ye Ming. But right now, they were just staring, frozen in place. It was as if they, too, were trying to process the absurdity of the situation.
Jing Jian, always the most unpredictable of the three, let out a low chuckle, as if amused by the entire ordeal. His face, typically unreadable, was twisted into a smirk. "Well, this is a new one," he said, sounding far too calm for the moment.
Li Wei shook his head, finally snapping out of it. "We need to get him to the clinic."
"No kidding," Guang Kai muttered, already leading the way. Ye Ming's body felt unnaturally light in his arms, like he weighed nothing at all. And for some reason, that only made Guang Kai more anxious.
The trio hurried down the now-empty corridor, their footsteps echoing in the silence. Guang Kai led the way, carrying the unconscious Ye Ming, while Li Wei and Jing Jian flanked him on either side, their expressions tight with concern—or, in Jing Jian's case, curiosity.
As they approached the school clinic, Li Wei couldn't help but cast nervous glances at Ye Ming's face. There was something unnerving about how peaceful he looked, as if this situation were perfectly normal. Ye Ming's sharp features, framed by his unruly yellow hair, were completely relaxed, his chest rising and falling in slow, even breaths. It was like he had fallen into the deepest sleep of his life, blissfully unaware of the chaos surrounding him.
Guang Kai, on the other hand, was focused. He pushed the door to the clinic open with his shoulder, his mind still running a mile a minute. They needed to explain this in a way that didn't make them all look like complete idiots. Maybe they could say that Ye Ming had fainted from stress, or that he hadn't eaten enough that day. Something plausible. Something that didn't involve admitting that Ye Ming had literally fallen asleep from laziness.
The nurse looked up from her desk, her expression shifting from mild boredom to immediate concern as she saw Guang Kai carrying Ye Ming. She walk calmly over, her eyes darting between the boys.
"What happened?" she asked, already guiding Guang Kai to lay Ye Ming on one of the beds.
"We found him like this," Guang Kai lied smoothly, placing Ye Ming down as gently as he could. "He seemed... overwhelmed."
"Did he collapsed again? Or he's just sick?" the nurse asked, feeling Ye Ming's forehead for a fever.
Li Wei, still trying to compose himself, shook his head. "I don't think so. Maybe he just needs some rest."
Jing Jian smirked, leaning against the doorframe. "Or maybe he's just too lazy to stay conscious."
Despite the tension in the room, Guang Kai had to admit—it was probably the truth.
The nurse frowned, clearly not convinced. She checked Ye Ming's pulse, her brow furrowed in concentration. "His vitals seem normal... but I'll keep him here for observation. You boys should go back to class."
Guang Kai nodded, relieved that the nurse wasn't pressing them further. He glanced at Jing Jian, who was still smirking like this was all some grand joke. Li Wei, on the other hand, was starting to look guilty—like this was somehow his fault. As they turned to leave, Guang Kai cast one last look at Ye Ming, still asleep on the clinic bed, looking as serene as ever. He couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't over. Whatever was happening between them and Ye Ming, this was just the beginning.
