Guang Kai and Jing Jian stared at each other, both wearing different expressions; one grinning and one wearing a neutral one.

The reason? The incident about rankings and what Jing Jian suggested—both of them duel (childish, right?) and the reward is Ye Ming without him knowing. No—whoever loses will stop chasing Ye Ming.

There's no love behind their obsession but rather a purpose, a motive behind their every action.

"By the end of the second grading of the second semester, I will take the spot that is mine, Jing Jian."

Guang Kai warned the other youth whose legs spread wide as Jing Jian sat casually as laid back as usual.

"So full of yourself, A-Kai\~. You see me as the only rival here when you clearly know how crazy Li Wei is." Jing Jian's grinning went wider, leaning over as his arms went on his knees for support. "You're really smart. Wasting your strength and intelligence to your strong enemy so your remaining stats can kill the weak. Unfortunately, Li Wei—"

"Why am I hearing my name in your grading feud? It's just a grade, and you're putting Ye Ming as the reward? Do you think he'll like it?" Li Wei kicked the door open, hearing his name at the same time as stopping Jing Jian from speaking further.

With another Coke in his hands, he sat next to Jing Jian.

"I didn't know that you guys are so immature and lack emotional intelligence." Li Wei smirked, knowing that his lack of presence in Ye Ming's inner monologue caused the young man to lower his guard around him.

"Also," Li Wei opened his can of soda, "why are you both acting like you'll win Ye Ming just because you two placed in the top rankings? That's like... impressing a cat with tuna when he's allergic to fish."

Guang Kai's brows furrowed slightly. "This isn't about impressing him. It's about proving who deserves him."

"Yeah, and that's even worse." Li Wei drank his soda. "You're turning a human being into a trophy. A living one who can kick you in the face if he ever hears what you two planned."

"I'm not doing this for glory." Jing Jian leaned back and tilted his head toward the ceiling. "I just hate losing. Whether it's grades, fights, or... people."

Guang Kai remained silent. His gloved hands folded neatly on his lap, concealing the subtle tension under his calm façade. He glanced toward the frosted window beside them. Outside, the skies were grey—neither promising rain nor light.

"You both don't get it." Li Wei placed his soda on the table and stood up. "You think Ye Ming will fall for the one who scores higher? Or the one who sticks around longer? That's not how it works. Ye Ming isn't a puzzle you can brute-force your way through."

Jing Jian hummed, his tongue lightly poking his cheek. "He seems pretty passive to me."

"That's because you both don't listen," Li Wei answered. "You're too busy fighting each other that you don't even see the man himself. His silence doesn't mean surrender. It means he doesn't give a damn."
