I have been receiving numerous uncomfortable and weird calls from Qing's cousins. Asking me why they are not on the guest list for our wedding. You see...Qing attended a family gathering comprise of just his cousins. The elders in his Wang family suggested that the younger generations meet each other to reconnect or whatever. Its a thing...in Qing's family, I guess.

I mean, me and my cousins do have a gathering or sort like that one...maybe? I don't know. I have my cousins phone numbers and we do chat or text once in a while but not everyday like that because we are actually living our individual lives...but yeah, we stay connected.

I won't claim that I am close to all of my cousins. Thats impossible as I think I have about forty close and distant cousins living all over Heilongjiang and around the country. I even have a distant cousin living in Ottawa. I have older cousins who don't get me and younger cousins who I don't get at all. Although I am happy to report that I am close to I think about six of my cousins who are close to my age.

Qing is about in the same situation. He has cousins he likes and cousins he...is not close with, for the lack of better words to use. I won't say Qing actively dislikes some of his cousins but he could live his life fully without thinking of them.

So lets go back to that gathering of cousins Qing attended where my husband to be proudly announced that most of his cousins won't be invited to our wedding.

Zhu gege and JiJi were kind enough to tell me what happened in that gathering while the six of us had a brunch together.

Wang Zhu: (highly amused) He just went there, looked at everyone and said, so not all of you are invited to my wedding.

Me: No way. No way that he did that.

JiJi: (chuckling) Yes. He did it just like that. Word for word.

Me: (to Qing) Why? Why did you do that?

Qing: Why? Well, because they all mentioned our wedding in that gathering like they expect an invitation to come their way. I obviously dissuade that expectation of theirs. They are not entitled to an invite to our wedding just because I am blood related to them.

Wang Zhu: Sure, I get that. But did you really have to go at it like an executioner swinging his axe?

Pau: (grinning) Does Qing ge knows another way aside from being lethally blunt?

JiJi: Probably not. But it was so funny how he's like a contestant on that bachelor show giving away roses to our cousins, telling them who is in and who is evicted on the game.

Zhu gege and JiJi chortled together. They were like little kids tickled by something.

Me: I don't find any of that amusing at all.

Gege: (sighing) Likewise. Isn't that a little rude?

Me: Its not just a little. Its a lot rude. (to Qing) How could you?

Qing: I just got straight and upfront about this to them. Because lets face it, we won't be able to invite all of them. We didn't even invited most of the elders in my family.

Me: Thats because Mama and I already visited them. We told them that the wedding will be in my home province and the journey will be a hassle. The elders in your family understood.

Qing: So? My cousins should understand too.

Me: Not with the way you go at it. Why do you have to be blunt all the time?

Qing: (scoffing) Because dilly dallying about it won't serve anyone. I was actually glad we gathered everyone there and I got to make just one announcement about the matter. Don't worry, we will invite the right people.
