Many of you might find this surprising but the life of an actor is all about waiting. Waiting for the director to call you on the set. Waiting for the right role to come. Waiting for the right time to strike. Waiting for the right moment to shine. Waiting...waiting...

We are being paid to wait until we find the right formula that will shoot our names to fame that will make us household names.

And while waiting, we hone our craft and acting skill. We take on different roles, we work to make a living so we can eat and have a place to sleep. Being an actor is all about waiting for the right moment to get famous.

Having said all that, I received several scripts for roles I think are interesting. There is one role in particular that caught my eyes. Its a supporting role in a mini series. Its so mini that it only has 8 episodes and would be mostly aired in a streaming platform.

But the story is light and cute. A romantic series about two people who met and fall in love while living and studying in a university town. The role I am interested in is a cafe owner that the two leads frequent. This cafe owner and barista shares light life lessons to our leads while making coffee and enticing stray cats to his lair.

No...the character is not diabolical at all. They try luring cats because they love cats even though cats don't love them so...

(Close to a real life you then...)

Please, no. Cats like me. Its just that Carlos is the exception to the rule. Please...once again, cats like me.

(If you have to repeat a point, you are losing...)

Shut up all of you! Cats like me, period! Now moving on...

(You are...a petty person)

That I am. Anyways, I said we are moving on. I haven't yet said yes to the role but Qing is already giving me the stinky eyed looks since...

Qing: You promised not to take on any role or project again before we get to say our I dos.

Me: I know, I know. But this is such a small project, Qing. Look, its only an 8 episode thing. It will be over in a breeze.

Qing: I don't care if it only has one episode. You promised me.

Me: Yeah well...sometimes, promises were made to be broken. Stop being inflexible, you strict person you...

Qing: Fine, if you will use that kind of logic, the answer is no.

Me: Wang Qing...

Qing: No. Stick to our plan. Our wedding first before anything else.

Me: I let you do those projects you want to do! You even escaped constructing our wedding menu!

Qing: And I let you do that months long project. Its not even done yet. You'll still join them in promoting it, right?

Me: Of course! Its part of the contract of an actor. To promote their projects.

Qing: Then focus on that. Why take on another project while you are still not done with the first one?

Me: Because I want to.

Qing growled in annoyance to my answer. I hugged him. Time to change strategy from arguing with him to making him a putty in my hands.

Me: Please please...let me do this. Oi, Wang Qing...why do I have to beg you like this? Where's the support, really? You promised to support everything I do.

Qing: (deadpan tone) It was broken the same way you are breaking your promise to me.

Me: I promise this will be the last one until we get married. Promise. Promise! (showing his face and neck with kisses) Pretty please...
