Angst lol
—————The last customer finally, mercifully left. You wanted to grab Amelia as quickly as possible and get the hell out of there. No hanging around to chat with Azul and the twins, no help cleaning, no getting a free dinner off of them. You just wanted to drop Amelia off at her house and get in bed and not talk to anyone ever again. You wanted to not exist. Or maybe to run far, far away to live in a cave. Anything but this.
"Amelia, you better get home. Let's go," you lifelessly demand.
"Huh, can't we stay a little longer?" Amelia wanted you to be able to have some time with the boys, too. You had been working and avoiding them pretty much the whole evening.
"Y/n, come rest awhile. It's really no bother," Azul offers. You resist the urge to death glare at him. It's not his fault you have no control over your stupid emotions.
"We can't. Amelia's parents hate me, so if I keep her out too late they'll never let her leave the house. Besides, I'm exhausted."
"Ugh, she's right. How much do I owe you guys?" Amelia pulls out her wallet, but Azul puts up his hands.
"It's on the house. Anything for a friend of y/n!" Azul beams. You feel yourself burning up inside. You're starting to get pissed. At who, you don't know. Possibly at yourself. It didn't matter, all you knew was you felt worse than ever.
"On the house!? Are you fucking serious!?" You shout at the whole room. "Since when did you do on the house!? I don't know what your game is, but she has boyfriend, so stop being so... so fucking weird! All of you have been so weird today! I can't stand it!" You storm out of the Lounge. You don't even know where you were going with that rant. You were subconsciously aware that it made perfect sense for Azul not to make your friend pay. That couldn't be what was bothering you. The problem must be the smothering atmosphere of positivity that cultivated without you there. Of course that's what happened with you gone, look what you just did, going off on your friend for being nice to your other friend. You stop in your tracks. You were the problem.
You're already halfway down the long hall out of Octavinelle, but you turn back. You need to apologize to the whole group for whatever that was. Too late, though, as Amelia and Azul are already running after you.
"Y/n, are you okay!? What was that!?" Amelia asks, stopping right in front of you.
"If I did something wrong, please, tell me so I can make it right," Azul assures you. Everyone was being too nice again. You were the one who screwed up, so what were they being nice for? You look at them with dead eyes.
"You didn't do anything wrong. It was my issue. Azul, Amelia, I'm sorry for blowing up like that. If you wanna stay, you can. I'll wait outside for you until you're ready," you try to turn around to continue leaving, but Azul puts his hands on your shoulders. You visibly flinch. He was the last person you wanted to be touched by. But at the same time, you wanted him to touch you so bad.
"You should come sit down and rest. You must be overworked," Azul says. You gently pull yourself away from him.
"No. I really don't feel like it. Have fun with Amelia," you walk off. Amelia gives Azul a concerned look before following after you. The look of hurt and heartbreak in his eyes was devastating.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what's going on with her. Thanks for the free meal. I'll try to talk to her," Amelia calls back behind her shoulder. Azul stands there for awhile, unsure of what to do with himself, feeling like he screwed everything up without knowing what he did wrong. It takes Amelia about 10 minutes to catch up to you, finding you on the ground, hugging your knees to your head, hiding your face.
"Oh, baby, don't cry..." Amelia had never seen you cry before, so this was very concerning. You lift your head to face her, no tears to be seen.
"What? I'm not crying. I don't think my body even produces tears anymore. I'm just really starting to hate the sight of this goddamn campus," you rest your chin on your knees. Amelia sits beside you.
"Please talk to me. What's really bothering you?" You don't answer for a solid minute. She's about to give up when your voice startles her.
"Azul sure liked you a lot," you say, no emotion in your voice. Amelia could facepalm so hard in this moment that it would fracture her skull.
"Yeah, he liked talking to me because all we talked about was you. Look, I saw it in his eyes, the guy's crazy about you," Amelia pauses, wondering why exactly your attitude towards him changed so suddenly. "I thought you didn't even know if you liked him?"
"...I thought so too. Guess I was wrong," you turn away from your friend, not seeing the wide grin appear across her face.
"Y/n! Y/n! You have to tell him. Please. Marry this man! He's perfect!" She shakes you.
"So you marry him," Amelia bonks you on the head for your stupidity.
"I don't wanna marry him, dumbass! And he doesn't wanna marry me. He wants you. You you you! Come on, we can go back to him, explain everything, and you two can be happy," you wish you had Amelia's optimism. But it didn't matter if you liked him, it didn't matter if she thought he liked you, it doesn't get rid of your concerns about not being sure and potentially ruining your friendship and job, etc. Your only real solution is to maybe wait until after he graduates to ask him out. That feels like forever at this point. It might drive you crazy.
"Just drop it. Can we just go home? I need to sleep this off," you get up and walk to the bus stop, forcing Amelia to follow after you without further discussion.Back in the Lounge, Azul and the twins tried their hardest to go over what went wrong. They dissected every little detail of what happened. They spoke to y/n's friend, didn't touch her as was requested, gave her free food and then y/n exploded? It didn't add up.
"Girls seem so troublesome..." Floyd whines. Jade and Azul nod in agreement. It was truly baffling.
"Maybe I should call her and ask if she got home okay..." Azul wonders.
"No, you should give her space. I think?" Jade warns. The situation is beyond his pay grade.
"...okay," Azul heads off to his room without another word. No matter what he does, he can't sleep that night. He tries his hardest to resist the urge to call you, but the urge wins. It's almost 12 am, but he knows you would still be awake. Jade was right apparently, because you don't pick up. He wants to die. He texts you as a last ditch effort.Azul: Please talk to me when you're up to it.
He curls into the fetal position, wanting to cry but not quite being at that point, and sleeps the best he can.
