I finally got my chance to check out the beach, which I had been looking forward to for the past few days. My mom gave me a walking map to find it. It was not far, as I could see the ocean from the tree in my back yard and the beach was near where I had seen the opening towards the sea between the buildings.
To walk there I decided to wear my converse shoes, a bathing suit and a long sleeved T-shirt. I also brought a backpack, a hat, and some water bottles and packed a lunch.
My hair had really started to come in nicely and most of the scaring was not visible, however my hair was still quite short. All the scabs were gone.
It was a beautiful day, as most are in Hawaii. I started out around 9 AM thinking I would get there shortly before 10. The walk was easy and the streets were tree lined with tropical trees with fern like tops. These were interspersed with various types of palm trees. Homes along the streets had various forms of rock gardens, some with cactus. Flowering shrubs ran along some stone walls.
As I got nearer to the beach I noticed more openings between the buildings where I could see water. Getting closer still, I noticed cars parked along the road for visitors to the beach and a parking lot with people walking to and from the beach in it. There were also a few cars parked with boat trailers on them.
I noticed there were a few bike racks. Having a bike would be a great idea. I was not old enough to drive, but a bike could get me around a lot, I was thinking.
I walked through the parking lot and stepped over a downed telephone pole that defined the edge of the parking lot facing the ocean. The ocean was fairly calm. There were a few people in the water and a few on towels or talking to others. The beach was actually fairly deserted and there still were a lot of spaces open in the parking lot.
I walked down towards the water and noticed a cluster of bikini girls that had situated themselves along the path so people could not miss seeing them. Some were dozing or pretending to do so, and a handful were looking at me through the gaps between their fingers of their hands. Most of the girls and young women were very attractive and I started to feel tingling sensations in my chest and down towards my groin. I looked away and focused on the ocean edge where it licked the sand. The sand was starting to fill my converses so I stopped to take them off, tie them together and sling them over my shoulder. I finally found a place to sit and set out my towel. The sand at this beach was white, but with coarse grain. The beach sand in Hawaii can range from pure white to totally black. It was nice this was white or it would have burned my feet more.
I laid down on the towel on my back and gazed up at the blue sky and listened to the waves gently rolling in at the water's edge. It was really peaceful. I relaxed and contemplated my situation. I wondered what it would be like to start school in a couple of weeks. I was pretty shy according to my parents. I guess it would not be too stressful to just sit back and observe what would be going on around me in the school. I occasionally took a peak up at the girls sitting and lying by the path I took from the parking lot. A couple of them were looking back. I was thinking I probably should have brought sun tan lotion. I thought my face was burning so I rotated my body onto my stomach, took another peek at the girls and just zoned out.

Suddenly I awoke to the sound of a straining engine and a guy and girl talking franticly. Looking in the direction of the sound I noticed there was a SUV down at the water's edge with a trailer and a guy was standing in the water trying to push a boat onto the trailer from the water. Things were not going well. The boat had drifted out of alignment to the trailer and was at 90 degrees to the trailer. The breeze and the more moderate waves now were too much for the guy to hold the boat. It was looking like it might drift off towards the beach and get stuck. The girl had no strength to hold it.
