hongjoong's pov

After a failed attempt of going to bed early to get enough sleep before his important exam tomorrow, Hongjoong decided to get some fresh air. The bright light on his mobile phone made him squint his eyes as he was trying to decipher the time. It was only 11:07 PM. Staying awake a little bit more and going to sleep later won't hurt him, right? Even if his exam was quite early tomorrow. He picked up his guitar that was placed in the corner of his dorm room, a notebook and a pencil.

Despite being an arts student, Hongjoong always loved music. Even if he chose to study arts in the end, his passion for music and writing songs has never really disappeared. He was nervously tapping his foot, trying to figure out what kind of song he could write. Writing music was something he would always end up doing whenever he had trouble sleeping. And right now, he didn't have much inspiration and it was irritating him. In the midst of an artist block, he received a text message.

my seonghwa<3
are you awake? it's okay if you aren't, i just wanted to say sweet dreams~

Immediately after reading the text message, Hongjoong called his boyfriend Seonghwa.

"Hongjoong? Why are you not asleep, you have an exam tomorrow!", Seonghwa was scolding him as soon as he answered the call.

"So that my husband can scold me."

"Oh...Wow, you actually made me blush.", Seonghwa was smiling and Hongjoong could sense that even if they weren't together.

"Who said that you were my husband?", Hongjoong joked.

"Oh, okay. I was actually on my way to your dorm room since I saw that the lights were on but now that I know that you have another husband, I'm just gonna leave.", Seonghwa really knew how to answer to him.

"NO! Wait, baby, I was joking. Please come. I can't sleep. I need you.", Hongjoong's voice became somewhat soft.

"I thought so. Don't worry, I'm on my way already. Let's snuggle up and sleep together.", he said before hanging up.

Hongjoong felt his heart beating a hundred miles per hour. His cheeks were slowly starting to burn up that, at one point, he thought he had a fever. He always had trouble falling asleep but when Seonghwa was with him, it was a whole different story. Suddenly, he grabbed his notebook from his desk and started writing. He is going to write a song for his Seonghwa.

san's pov

"I don't know Sannie, I have a bad feeling about this.", Wooyoung said to his boyfriend while they were walking out of the university building after their classes.

"It's going to be okay, don't worry. She said that she just wants to talk. I don't know about what exactly, but we'll see I guess.", San reassured him.

"If you say so. Come to my room when you're done?", Wooyoung looked at him with a certain spark in his eyes, making it impossible for San to reject him.

"Alright. I'll come.", San laughed softly and pinched his boyfriend's cheek before going to the caffe where he was supposed to meet with his mother.

And his mother was already there. She was looking out of the window while holding the drink with both of her hands. At that moment, San wished that he had a normal relationship with his mother. He missed his mother's hugs, her delicate words towards him and the way she would spend time with him every now and then. That was all before she met that awful man. The only good thing that came out of that marriage was his brother Seonghwa. His mother, on the other hand, changed completely. Sometimes, he just wished that things would go back to how they used to be. When his mother noticed him enter the caffe, her eyes lit up the same way as they did in the past, before she got married to him. And those eyes gave San a little bit of hope.

"I wanted to talk to you about something important, Sannie.", she started and San just nodded his head signaling her to continue.

"Your relationship with that Wooyoung boy...", as soon as he heard her mention Wooyoung's name, San started fuming up.

"Sannie, I don't mind you being with that boy. As long as you're happy with him, I don't care who he is."

"But why did you take his side that one time when I mentioned Wooyoung? Why?", San was starting to tear up.

"Because if I took your side that day, your father would have gotten very angry and I don't know what could have happened to you.", she explained it to him.

"Don't call that man my father. I don't have a father."

"You won't have to call him like that. Soon.", she suddenly announced.

"What do you mean?", San was confused and his previous anger was starting to slowly disappear.

"I'm going to divorce him. I want to live with my son and your boyfriend is welcome to live with us too. Soohyuk wants to help us, Sannie.", his mother took his hand and squeezed it tightly.

"I'm...so happy right now."

The truth is, San was on the verge of crying. Fortunately, tears of joy. He held his mother's hand and finally felt like they were a family again. His mother wiped his tears with her silky handkerchief that she also gave to him, telling him that he can return it to her later.

They exited the caffe together and San hugged his mom tightly before separating with her. He turned around with a wide smile on his face that was about to fade away really soon when he heard a loud noise. When he turned around, he saw his mother laying on the street, blood slowly spreading all around her. In front of her was someone who was very familiar to San.

The tall man was holding a gun in his hands. And he has just shot two bullets into the chest of San's mother. Hyunjin turned around to look at San for one last time, with a wide grin on his face, before the policemen who were nearby arrested him while San was running towards his mother. He fell besides her, on his knees and took one of her hands that was covered in blood from the wound on her chest.

"Someone please call the ambulance!", San shouted.

"Sannie...", his mom was trying to reach out to him but she could barely breathe.

"It's okay, mom. Everything is going to be okay, please don't bother to speak now, the ambulance is coming soon.", tears were strolling down his face while he was holding his mother's hand tightly.

"My sweet son...", she caressed his cheek with her other hand.

"What is it, mom?"

"I...love...you.", she managed to say before letting out her last breath.
