We sat down at the table staring at the mask and the rope.
Suddenly, Alex got up and held the ski mask. He carefully observed it and then he pulled a strand of hair from it. One strand of light brown hair.
"Hand me a napkin, will you?" He asked and I nodded. I went to the kitchen and brought him a napkin.
He gently placed the hair in the napkin and wrapped it.
"I'll send this to my friends in New York. They can get a match. They'll be sure to investigate it. It's a start. I'll also trace where the text is coming from. No pressure."
"If you want I can send my hair sample if-
"There isn't a strand of light brown hair on your head." I chuckled and he cracked a smile.
"But that doesn't mean that I didn't plan the entire thing and had someone do the dirty work for me."
"I don't think you'd be this sloppy Mr. Detective. You'd have gotten rid of the evidence."
"I just want you to see that I'm not guilty."
"I knew that you wouldn't do something like that Alex. You're not the type of person. And besides, that's some cool detective skills you've got there." I said and he laughed.
"That person thought they'd be setting me up. For some reason, they want you all alone. I don't think we're out of the woods yet Annie." He sighed.
"You're right. Do you think they followed us here?" I frowned.
"I don't know but I'll have two men watch the house. One of them can go out with you when I can't. I know it's not ideal but let's just be cautious for now okay?"
"Alright, sounds like a plan." I leaned in and kissed his lips.
"What's that for?"
"I think you already know."

Alex left early for work.I got two more texts saying:
'Leave this town girl."
'I will destroy you.'When I find out who this is they're gonna be so fucking sorry.
He sent the hair sample to New York and told me that the two bodyguards would arrive around 8.
Their names were Phillip and Xander.
They dressed casually but surely they had their guns on them.
Xander stayed at home to watch the house for suspicious activity and Phillip came to town with me. Phillip was very bubbly, he had a personality that made you feel at ease. He talked a lot and I didn't mind because I was very talkative as well. He had dark brown hair and animated, almond-colored eyes.
Xander was the opposite, he was serious and barely spoke. He addressed me as "Ms. Parker" even though I told him he could just call me Annette. He was buff and his hair was dyed silver and kept in a low cut.
"I'm gonna meet my friends inside. What will you do?"
"I'll sit at a nearby table," Phillip said and I nodded.
"Tiffany, Paige!" I called as I walked over to them.
"Oh my gosh Hi!"
"There's the mommy-to-be!" Tiffany grinned.
"How are you doing?" Paige asked.
"I'm alright."
"And who is that you came with?" She gestured to Phillip.
"He's my bodyguard."
"Bodyguard? Why? What's going on?"
"Well, it's a long story." I briefly relayed everything to them and their eyes widened at what I told them.
