Annette

"Yes dear, I'm shaken up as well," Candace sighed.

"I didn't know that Nathan would do something like this. I'm so sorry, Annette."

"It's a lot to process," I admitted as I sipped the tea Candace made for me.

"It is. He's my son, so I can't help but feel hurt and this heaviness in my heart. It's too painful. I can't believe it. I didn't think he'd go that far and do that to you. I'm so sorry, Annie."

"It's not your fault, Candace." I reached out and touched her hand.

"You can make someone, but you can't make their mind. He did this of his own will, and while it's disgusting, you aren't to blame. When I met Nathan, he was the sweetest guy. He was amazing, and he cared about me and everyone around him. He was selfless and amazing. Somewhere along the line, he changed and became someone else. I know this must be hard on you, seeing your son like this."

"It is hard, but I can't imagine what it has been like for you. It must have been tragic and scary. I'm so sorry, Annette."

"All that matters is that it's over now."

"Yes, you're right."

After I left Candace's home, I got a call from an unknown number.

"Annie, it's me, Nathan. I need to talk to you. I think you're in danger."

"Oh? I don't want to talk to you. Bye."

"Annie, wait, I-

I hung up and went to my car. What could he possibly want to say? It's ridiculous. He did all of that and expected us to talk to each other like nothing happened. That is not going to happen. Why did they even allow him to get a phone call? Ughh!

I decided to go shopping. There's nothing that can ease your mind like shopping, right?

The cart was filled with baby clothes and items. Okay, maybe I did go overboard, but I am having a baby for the first time, so it is exciting!

Bags in my hands, I walked over to the food court, as I was extremely hungry.

I ordered a chicken salad, a burger, and some fries. To wash it all down, I bought a large vanilla milkshake.

As I ate the food, I savored the delicious taste of every bite. This is what I needed! But my moment was short-lived as I saw Alex walking with another woman.

Don't get me wrong, men can have female friends, but it's hard to just blindly trust now, given what I've been through. I trust Alex though. He hasn't given me any doubts.

They stopped and talked as she casually rubbed her hand against his shoulder. She smiled at him and kept staring at his face.

What the fuck?

I wasn't about to interrupt, not now. If it's one thing I learned, it's up to people to do the right thing. I wasn't about to tell him what to do or intervene.

She leaned in to hug him but he stuck his hand out. The woman looked taken aback. She quickly excused herself and left.

Alex shook his head and walked in the opposite direction.

I wonder who she was?

After I finished eating, I went home and placed the baby's items in one of the rooms that we were planning to make for them.

Alex came home shortly with a box of cupcakes in his hand.

"Hey baby," He leaned down and kissed my cheek.
