Annette's POV

My heart was racing as I looked around the house. Was someone there? Was Nathan still doing this?

"Annie, are you okay?" Alex asked, I hadn't even heard him come in.

"No, we need to go see Nathan now."

"Now? What happened?"

"Alex, I need to talk to him. If my suspicions are correct, we've been played. Let's go."

"Alright."

We arrived at the detention center, and Alex spoke to the man at the desk. Shortly after, he escorted us to a room.

"Interrogate the shit out of him, Alex," the man smirked as he left the room.

Nathan was brought in a short while later. He wore a grey shirt and grey pants. His hands were handcuffed, and he looked tired.

"Annie! You came! Thank goodness!"

"Settle down. I'm just here to ask a few questions," I said, and he nodded.

"Why?" That was all I said.

"Annie, I would never do anything to hurt you."

"Just like how you hurt Evie?"

"Annie-

"Your case doesn't look good right now."

"Nathan, a confession could get you less time," Alex said.

"You don't get it, do you? I never tracked Annie, I didn't even know where she went. I tried to be a part of her life and be there for my child. Then suddenly, I'm being accused of everything. Evie even said I raped her. I didn't do that. I'm a lot of things, but I'm not a rapist or a kidnapper. I'm not by any means a good man, I'll admit that, and yes, I did hit Evie, but I didn't and wouldn't send you threats or attack you. I could never bring myself to hurt Annie. Please, trust me."

"Nathan, denying it isn't going to help you. We found the laptop in your house. There's concrete evidence against you," Alex countered.

"Unless," I paused, and they looked at me.

"He could have been framed? It would make sense." I said, and Alex sighed.

"Yes, I thought about that. I even looked at things to prove whether he was framed. The chances were low."

"Maybe it's not, I'm not defending Nathan, but think about it for a second. It's perfect. It's too perfect. Someone randomly gives that tip, and you're unable to trace the number. That's weird. I think they framed him, and they are still out there. I just received a call before you came. It was a threat from an unknown number. I think they're going too far to prove that Nathan is behind it."

"You're probably right, Annie," Alex said thoughtfully.

"Nathan, how did you get a call? You called me and asked me to come."

"That was my only phone call. I had the right to one call. I decided to call you. I have no access to any phone or devices."

"I'll investigate some more. Search the house again. There must be some clue left behind."
