Jake's POV

School ended too fast.
I quickly rushed home to figure out something to get him. Like flowers? A ring? A bracelet? He is loaded, and I can barely afford my own food at Red Robin.

When I got home, I went to my room, shut the door, and paced around the room trying to figure out what to do. And I had to do it before it got too late, so before dinner. That way, they'll want to get dinner afterwards.
I'd have to ask my mom and not dad as well. My dad doesn't like wasting gas.

I figured I'd just go to a nice place and pick out something there.
I know his favorite color is black, that was pretty much it.

I had an idea, but I would have to say it now. And I'd have to find it for an amount either I or my mom could afford.
I went to the door, took a deep breath and almost opened the door when...

DING
I felt a vibration against my leg. I took an annoyed sigh and pulled out my phone, to turn it on and to see a message from both Henry and Liam in a group chat. They made a group chat? Without Drew? Strange.

I figured I'd have time to check the messages so I unlocked my phone and opened the chat.

--------------
Chat

[Liam] Hey, Jake, we just wanted to check up on you with Drew. You ran away from him, and us, at first period.

[Henry] Yeah. He looked really upset, are you mad at him or something?? Or us??

---------------

Of course they asked. Why am I not surprised?
I tapped my finger against my phone, thinking about how to answer. Or to even answer. I couldn't let them know I liked Drew. They would freak out, make faces at me, possibly tell Drew, bother him. On another note, if I didn't answer they'd think I'm actually mad at Drew.
But they probably have their suspicions from today's compliment.

I'll just figure it out later, I shoved my phone back back my pocket and opened the door and walked downstairs. I saw my mom reading over some papers she got in the mail. I hesitated to speak.
"Um.. mom?"

She didn't answer me, still reading those papers.
I tapped my foot, patiently waiting for an answer. I repeated myself, "mom.."

She glanced up, "Huh? Sorry, was reading this. What's up?"

"I was just.." I gulped. "wondering if we could go to the store today and get something? I wanted to get something for my friend an-"

"I'm sorry, honey, but I don't have time. I have to read all of these letters, probably pay bills and call some people," She continued on. "And money's tight. I can't afford to get something for your friend right now."

I sighed, not trying to put up a fight. "Okay.."

"Maybe we can go in a few days or next week, or this weekend, okay?"

I just nodded and slowly headed upstairs.
I closed the door behind me. Was disappointing, but not surprising.

I'm sure getting Drew something could wait. I mean, I have an entire school year left. And I doubt getting him anything would make us more than friends in just seconds.
I flopped on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I still don't know how to stay calm around him and not run away. And doing that clearly made him upset, so I needed to figure out how to do that. While keep Henry and Liam from knowing, and most importantly Drew.
Jeez this was overwhelming.

--------------
I woke up the next morning, got ready, ate breakfast, and headed out the door and walked to school. Playing music through my headphones.

I was trying to prepare myself for when I saw Drew, I kept inhaling and exhaling deeply, trying to keep myself as calm as possible before I even got there. While also focusing on my music.
Once I arrived, I saw Henry, Liam and Drew there already. I took a deep breath and slowly walked over.

Drew was on his phone scrolling through something, and Henry and Liam were talking to each other.
When I got over there I took out my headphones and paused my music, saying, "Hey guys."

Henry and Liam looked over at me, "Hey Jake." Liam smiled at first, but then stopped, "Why didn't you respond to our texts? We texted you for a long time."

"Yeah, we put the right number in the group chat right?" Henry added.

"Well I-"

"What? There's a group chat that I wasn't into?" Drew turned off his phone and glared at me, "So now you're keeping secrets from me?"

"No Drew I swear I-"

"Jake if I did something just tell me already, you keep running away from me and now you're keeping secrets from me."

"Woah, Drew, calm down," Liam said, placing a hand on Drew's shoulder to try to calm him down. "It wasn't anything bad about you or anything to keep secrets from you, we were just asking him if he was okay."

"And I couldn't have been added in with that? I can help too, you know."

"We never said you couldn't.."

"Well clearly you think that." Drew brushed Liam's hand off of his shoulder, "It's fine. It doesn't even matter! I'm just gonna go inside."

I watched as Drew angrily stormed inside. Jeez, he was getting angrier everyday. I really needed to fix this soon. I still don't know how.
