Apologies & explanations

I'd had a long day and decided that I would grab myself a shower, watch half an hour of crappy TV in the dark and then head off to bed. I was sat relaxing with a glass of water on the sofa when there was a light tapping at the door. It was probably Shirley making sure I was ok and settled.

I opened the door and was shocked to see Tom stood there holding a carrier bag. "Didn't think I'd be seeing you again, especially not so soon." I was upset at the rejection but I couldn't be too mad at him after the way he was treated before he was probably just cautious. He shuffled awkwardly as it started to rain. "Do you want to come in? You will just have to excuse me sat here in my pyjamas though. I wasn't really expecting guests."

He nodded and followed me in, placing the bag on my dining table as he passed it. "I went down to the sundries cupboard and grabbed you a few bits from the welcome baskets to help tide you over until you get to the shop. I thought you could do with teabags, milk and sugar at least. The milk is only a long life carton type one though. My apology." He sat down on the sofa with me but looked down at the floor. He looked really sorry for himself.

"Thank you, I really appreciate it. What are you apologising for though? I wanted you to kiss me so you have nothing to apologise for." I paused for a second. "Is it my turn to make a brew now then?" He looked up and we smiled at each other as he nodded yes to having a cup of tea.

I walked over, filled the kettle and flicked it on. "If I'm being honest with you babes, I wasn't apologising for the kiss." I looked over at him confused as he sat forward with his elbows on his knees and hands together. "I was apologising for pulling away and making you uncomfortable. I feel as though I owe you a little bit of an explanation."

I finished making tea and went and sat with him. "What exactly is it that you feel that you need to explain to me then? Go on, I am all ears."

He shuffled a little to get himself comfortable and took a swig from his scalding hot drink before talking. "Basically I explained to you earlier about my ex and what she did to me. Since then I have thrown myself into work and not paid women any attention. But then you showed up and I was told by Shirley to be nice. I just didn't realise though how being nice to you would feel so natural and I really did enjoy spending some time with you tonight. It was the first time that I have smiled and meant it in a long time. It was also the first time I have kissed someone. Since her I mean." He paused and pursed his lips before looking up at me drinking from my cup.

"Thank you for explaining yourself to me. I thought that I had maybe done something wrong with the way that you recoiled from me and went quiet. You were the first person I have kissed since Bobby, if that makes you feel any better?" I chuckled a little to try and relax him. It seemed to do the trick.

"Right pair of silly bollocks really, ain't we? Can't even give someone an explanation without the other one wanting to explain as well. I don't know if you realised as well but when I said about the film and things, I should have just asked. Did you maybe want to do the takeaway and film thing one night? Just as friends." He sat there staring at me waiting for an answer.

"I'm not sure." He looked away and went to stand up to leave. "I mean at the end of the day it would depend on when you were thinking, what other takeaways there are around here and do you expect me to pay every time?" He looked towards me and I stuck my tongue out at him. He laughed.

"You cow. I seriously thought that you weren't bothered then. So how about Sunday night as I have Monday off work. Gives you tomorrow night to settle in as well then. Sound like a plan to you? I will pay and it will be pizza this time." I grinned as I nodded my agreement to him. "Well anyway, I have taken enough of your time this evening so I am going to go and leave you too it. Maybe see you around. There is a map in the bag as well for you to show you around the site and where the local supermarket is." He made his way to leave.

I stood to go and see him out. He opened the caravan door and stepped out into the rain. "Tom?" He turned around and came back to the door. I took my chance. I grabbed his shirt and pulled him forward so that I could kiss him. What happened next shocked and pleased me.

TOM'S POV

I needed to apologise and explain to her why I kissed her and then pushed her away. I don't know what it was about her but something about her was like a magnet that was pulling me in and I was powerless to stop it. I hadn't even felt like this with Ruth. Even the thought of her name now was enough to make my skin crawl.

The good thing is Y/N didn't seem pissed off with me when I took the bag round to her. I explained my reasons and she seemed to understand where I was coming from. She had even agreed to another night together. As friends of course, if more happened then I wouldn't say no I don't think.

It was pouring down with rain as I went to leave and go home, not completely abnormal for September in Cornwall. She called me as I got outside, these caravan steps were no joke in the wet. I turned and went back though to see what she wanted. Before I had a chance to say anything she had grabbed my Top and started kissing me. Would have been rude for me to have pulled away twice in a day.
