The four boys sat around the table in Mike's basement in the midst of a Dungeons and Dragons game, while Will, as the game master, desperately tried to continue his campaign.
"The goblin closes in on you in the forest.. your quest for darkwood doesn't matter now.. What will you do?!" Will exclaimed.
Mike stared off while Dustin and Lucas seemed preoccupied with their other things. Lucas typed away on his phone, absorbed in the screen?
"Lucas! It's your turn to roll." Will nagged him.
"What? Oh- oh, yeah. Okay." he said absentmindedly, picking up the dice and rolling it on the table.

"Uh, 12. Fight him, I guess." he said dryly, before disregarding the game again.
"So you choose to fight! You grab your sword and slice his arm off, but he's still coming after you! Dustin, do you choose to help him?" Will narrated.
Dustin, however, was not paying attention. He was busy writing on a paper. Will's smile faltered as he stared at the table of disinterested boys. Didn't they like to play just as much as he did?
"Come on, Dustin! It's your turn!" Will said with a slight whine. He noticed that he was sounding childish, but he forced it down. Mike, however, perked up slightly with suspicion.

"Do we have to play this? I'm writing a letter for my girlfriend right now." Dustin asked.
"Girlfriend..? Come on, it's our game night! It's fun!" Will said desperately, trying to muster a smile. Mike watched on. He could see Will growing upset.
"Yeah, if we were like, ten. Don't you think this is a little childish?" Lucas remarked, looking up from his phone.
"What? No! Can't you guys just forget about your girlfriends and stuff for a second? It'll be just like old times!" Will pleaded, desperately trying to hold on to a piece of the past.
"This game's for kids, dude. Besides, it's not our fault you don't like girls!" Lucas replied.

The moment he had said it, Lucas knew he had screwed up. But it was too late. Silence filled the air as the boys stared up at one another. Mike noticed the small tears welling in Will's eyes, though he tried to hide it. To prevent anyone from seeing, Will stood up and pushed his chair in aggressively, running up the stairs and out the front door. Mike went after him immediately, while Dustin and Lucas sat there with expressions that read "what-on-earth-just-happened?", Will wasn't typically one to have outbursts like that.

Will, who wiped his tears away angrily, hadn't noticed that Mike had followed him. He mounted his bike and pedaled away as fast as his legs would take
him, the chilly air blowing away what was left of the tears on his face. The cold air and serene silence of the outside calmed him down, and he eventually slowed down, stopping at his house. He dropped his bike carelessly on his driveway, running into his home. He bolted for his bedroom and shut himself inside, curling his knees to his chest and crying once again.

After some time of crying, he began to feel little. He felt himself yearning for his paci and his stuffie. He placed two fingers in his mouth, anxiously chewing on them as his friends' words replayed in his head.

Don't you think this is childish?

This game's for kids, Will.

It's not our fault you don't like girls.

Will was deeply saddened by their words.
"m' not ready to grow.."
To calm himself before another outburst, he quickly opened his nightstand drawer, grabbing a light blue pacifier and putting it in his mouth. He reached beside him and grabbed his favorite stuffed animal of a puppy, seeking a source of comfort.
"m' not weird, wight Angel?" he asked dejectedly, cuddling into it. But of course, no response. Will was a realist and knew that Angel would never respond, no matter how much he wanted him to. His lips formed a small pout and he looked down dismally, feeling like he was drowning within his hurt and loneliness.

Mike biked as fast as he could to Will's house. He wanted him to be okay. Mike threw his bike down carelessly, rushing to the door. Thankfully, it was left unlocked. He entered quietly, shutting the door softly behind him. He glanced around, and by the looks of it, they were home alone. He walked down to Will's room, pausing just outside the door. He heard soft sniffles coming from the inside. Mike's heart almost broke.

He knocked gently on the door. Will was extremely startled by this. He thought he was home alone. But a robber wouldn't have the decency to knock, right? In the panic, he spit out the pacifier and shoved it under his pillow, and quickly threw his stuffie aside, the plush hitting the wall and falling onto the floor. He cringed and whispered a small "i'm sorry!" towards it before quickly wiping his eyes.
"C-come in." he uttered. Mike slowly entered, being sure to close the door behind him. He could tell by Will's puffy and red eyes that he'd been crying, though he tried to hide it. He eyed the plushie on the floor. It seemed rather out of place with Will's neatly organized room.

Mike picked it up and handed it to him, sitting down beside Will. It took everything within him to not slip into littlespace and he was right on the edge. After a few moments of silence, Mike spoke up.
"I'm sorry about those jerks. They don't know what they're saying sometimes."
Quiet filled the air momentarily. A feeling of dread formed in Will's stomach. He had slipped. Little Will was manning the ship, and he was sure to crash it.

"s'okay! We're still best fwends, and Angel!" Will replied cheerfully. Mike noticed the mood swing in Will's personality, an especially strange one at that, but went along with it nonetheless.
"Oh? Angel's your best friend too?" Mike asked as his lips curved into a smile.
"My puppy! See?" Will exclaimed, holding up the plush, and Mike couldn't help but laugh.
"Hey! What's so funny?" Will sulked.
"Oh, I'm sorry baby. I was just laughing because you're so cute." Mike grinned, ruffling the boy's hair.
"M' no' a baby." Will pouted.
"Oh sure, bud. Whatever you say." Mike replied amusingly.

He quite liked this new side of Will.
