Steve and Eddie sat together on a field of grass, and chatter could be heard from around them as other people walked around the park. It wasn't too crowded, and the two kept to their spot. Steve giggled as he played around with Eddie's hands. Though even when Steve wasn't occupied with playing, he still enjoyed being outside. Beautiful trees, fields of shiny grass, a warm sun, and a cool breeze. It made even little Steve happy. He bit his bottom lip and grinned as he admired the scenery, quietly clapping his hands happily.
"Bud, I gotta go to the car for a second, okay?" Eddie said to him, putting an arm on his shoulder. Steve furrowed his eyebrows at this.
"Go? Why?" asked Steve curiously.

"Don't worry kiddo, I'll come right back." Eddie chuckled, "I'm just.. going for a smoke." An unamused expression was plastered on Steve's face. He was disapproving of Eddie's smoking habit, but he grumbled and let him go anyways. Though Steve was left alone, he was a very well-behaved little. So he kept to himself, that is, until he heard faint shouting from behind him growing closer.
"Harrington. Harrington!" it yelled. Steve was frightened. He wasn't supposed to talk to most people in littlespace, and he liked it that way. But without a choice, he immediately stood up and turned around, meeting face to face with Jason and his goons.

Steve was afraid to speak. He could hardly utter a word out of sheer nervousness, so he stared back at Jason.
"Here on a date with that Munson freak?" Jason spat, "God, what a weirdo." he remarked, him and his cronies laughing. Sure, Steve was still little, but his anxiety was quickly washed out by anger.
"He's not." Steve replied sternly, clenching his jaw and frowning.
"Uh, yeah. He is. And so are you, going on your little 'queer date' at the park." Jason sneered.
"No he's not!" Steve's voice began to rise as he formed a tight fist at his side.

"Eddie's a wastoid and a murderer. He's a satan worshipper. He killed all those people. He killed Chrissy, and he'll get your fairy ass too." Jason hissed. With every word Jason spoke, Steve felt rage boil up inside of him.
"It's not true!" Steve yelled with an intense glare, beginning to charge at Jason. But Jason quickly pushed him back, Steve falling to the ground. Jason's crew loomed over him and a feeling of dread formed in the pit of his stomach. Steve looked up with slight fear in his eyes, unsure of what they would do to him.
"This is the incredible Steve Harrington, giving up so soon?" Jason scoffed in amusement. "You're a loser, just like your dad."

Steve's face burned with shame as Jason belittled him. A load of emotions circled through him. He was afraid of what could happen, he was embarrassed to feel inferior to them. He felt useless. He felt small. Steve frowned and looked away so they wouldn't see the warm tears beginning to form in his eyes. At this point, the only thing he could do was desperately try to hold in his tears so he didn't look even more puny, but it didn't work. He squeezed his eyes shut bracing himself for any abuse, but their heads quickly turned at the sound of another voice in the distance.
"Hey, dickheads!" Eddie yelled, quickly catching up to the group. "The hell are you doing?" He asked them, constructing a facade of self-confidence.

Steve let out a shaky exhale. He was so relieved that Eddie had distracted them, that Eddie came to save him. Jason took a few steps back. His image of Eddie wasn't something he wanted to be near.
"We're just showing your boyfriend what kind of monster you are." Jason tried to maintain his dominance, though his smugness now turned into apprehension.
"Wh- monster? Huh, well, you'd better screw off before I get you too!" Eddie grinned evilly at them, plastering on a deranged face.
"No.." Jason uttered in shock, walking backwards.
"Oh yeah. Lock your doors tonight, pussies! Hahaha!" Eddie called after them as they ran away.

"Assholes." he muttered under his breath as he watched them scatter. Stevie heard this and looked up at Eddie, frowning a little. He didn't quite like swearing, either.
When they were a good distance away, Eddie looked down at Stevie, who was full on sobbing. Eddie's expression softened a little, worry in his eyes. He reached for Steve's hand and pulled him up.
"Come on, we're going home." Eddie said sternly, walking Stevie to the car and buckling him in. During the ride, Stevie sobbed relentlessly. Eddie listened in sympathy as he let him release his frustrations. After a while, Steve began to calm down. When he was reduced to harsh sniffles, Eddie decided to speak.

"Stevie.. what did they do? Did they hurt you?" he asked with concern. Steve shook his head through tears. "What happened? What did they say?" Eddie asked, attempting to stay calm. Steve stayed quiet for a moment, his lip quivering. He looked out the window again.
"He s-said we're weirdos." Steve said flatly.
"Tch, so?" Eddie said, forcing a slight laugh. "C'mon, they're the weirdos, if anything."
" 'said I'ma loser, wike my dad." Steve continued, his voice breaking a little. Eddie's face dropped immediately.

"N-no, Stevie!" he exclaimed, stopping the car. "You're not anything like him!" said Eddie, turning towards Steve. Steve wouldn't return the eye contact, staring down at his lap with an expression that could only be described as anger and hurt. He wiped his eyes furiously to make it seem as if he wasn't crying.
"Then why'd they say it?" Steve frowned.
"Because, he- they just attack people's worst insecurities, they don't know what they're saying, they don't know anything!" Eddie tried to utter his words through total shock. Steve didn't respond for a few moments. Eddie swallowed in the awkward silence.

"They said you'we a killer." Steve finally spoke. Eddie's heart dropped. Steve wouldn't honestly believe this, would he? Anyone in the town could believe it for all he cared, but not Stevie.
"Please, not Stevie." He prayed to himself.
"Stevie, you don't really think.." Eddie began.
"No." Steve cut him off. "You're not a killer. You saved me! You'we a hero!" he replied, his face brightening a little. Eddie released a breath he didn't realize he was holding.
"Oh, I don't know about that.." Eddie said, chuckling. He began to drive along the road again. "Uh-huh! You'we like.. Supewman!" Steve blurted, almost jumping in his seat. Eddie thought it was adorable how he became happy so quickly and how excited he was.

"Woah, for me? Then which superhero are you?" Eddie played along, grinning.
"I'm the Flash, because I, um, I can run so fast!" Steve exclaimed. Laughter and chatter filled the car as they drove off, having forgotten all about the incident.
