As the jet flew over the Hydra base, Steve asked, "Everybody clear on the plan?" The team nodded in unison. "Banner, be ready for that file transfer on my mark," he instructed.
"Alright, let's do this," Clint said, landing the jet and opening the door. Tony, Clint, Steve, Natasha, and Wanda climbed out, leaving Bruce behind to prepare for the file transfer. Each of them entered the base through their designated entry points.
Their mission was to retrieve stolen blueprints for all of Tony's Iron Man suits. The team had been summoned by Tony's frantic call, which had been prompted by an explosion that had destroyed his entire lab and left his home in ruins. The team knew that if they didn't get the blueprints back, it would lead to catastrophic consequences. So, they had devised a plan to infiltrate the Hydra base and retrieve the stolen documents.
With Hydra expecting them, the mission was fraught with danger. But, as the Avengers, they were confident in their abilities. They had worked together before, and they knew that their combined skills would be enough to overcome any obstacle.
"Hawkeye, I've got two guards approaching," Steve said, his voice calm and steady. "Take care of them."
Hawkeye responded, his bow and arrow at the ready. He fired an electric shock arrow, taking down one of the guards. "Roger that, Cap," he said.
"Tony, cover me," Steve said, as he made his way to the private room.
"I'm on it." Tony replied. Shortly after, Tony burst into the scene, blasting shots from his suit. Steve used his shield as cover as he kicked down the door to the private room.
He quickly turned on the main computer and entered the password. "Alright, Banner, I'm in. Get that transfer done," he said over the coms.
"Everybody still copy?" Steve asked, his voice steady.
"Copy," Tony replied.
"Copy," Clint followed.
"Hang on," Natasha said, her voice strained. She had just finished off the last guard blocking her exit route. "Wanda?" she called out, her voice laced with concern. But there was only silence.
That's when Natasha's panic set in. She knew something was wrong. She frantically called out Wanda's name again, but there was no response.
"Wanda? Anyone have eyes on Wanda?" Natasha asked, her voice laced with concern.
"Negative," Clint replied, his voice firm.
"Negative," Steve echoed, his tone serious.
Natasha's concern grew as she scanned the area, her eyes scanning the shadows. She knew that Wanda was a skilled fighter, but she was also a skilled telepath. If she was gone, it meant something was seriously wrong.
"Second bomb. City. Pipelines." Wanda informed them through the static background of her communication device.
Red lights strobed ominously, casting flickering shadows across the debris-strewn hallway. The acrid tang of burnt metal filled Natasha's throat as she raced towards the ground floor, her boots pounding a frantic rhythm against the concrete.
"Did she just say there's a second bomb?" Natasha barked into her com device, the static crackling with each word.
"Yeah, linked to the city's pipe lines," Tony's reply confirmed her worst fears. She could practically feel the clock ticking in her head. He didn't need to add that they were already on a tight deadline with the first one.
"Wanda is stabilizing the bomb with her powers, sir," Friday announced, a sliver of hope in her artificial voice.
"Tony? Nat?" Wanda's voice, faint and strained, pierced through the tension.
