Wanda's Pov

The earth pounded against my feet, a dull ache throbbing with every jarring step. My whimpering echoed in my ears, a desperate counterpoint to the relentless drumming of rain. Mud, cold and slick, clung to my shoes, sucking at them with every desperate push forward.  Pietro's tiny body trembled against my chest, his face buried in the crook of my neck, his soft sobs muffled against my damp skin.

A rumble of thunder ripped through the sky, a momentary distraction from the raw terror clawing at my insides.  The rain arrived in a sudden torrent, a sheet of icy needles stinging my exposed skin. I gasped, a ragged breath ripped from my lungs.  Just behind us, the enraged shouts of Hydra agents cut through the downpour. They were getting closer.

Adrenaline surged through me, bitter and sharp.  Without slowing down, I reached for my magic, a desperate plea coursing through my veins.  Red wisps of energy erupted from my wrists, sizzling tendrils reaching for the ground.  With a concentrated burst of will, a translucent barrier sprang up between the trees, a wall of shimmering energy hastily woven to trap our pursuers.  For a fleeting moment, I saw them stumble back in frustration, their frustrated yells muffled by the crackling barrier.

But the respite was fleeting.  I knew it wouldn't hold forever.  Renewed vigor fueled my steps, pushing me deeper into the storm-wracked forest. My thin sneakers squelched in the mud, the fabric clinging to my feet like a second skin. Rain soaked through my clothes, turning them into a heavy, clammy burden.  My vision blurred, a mix of rain and exhaustion.  But I pushed on, Pietro's life the only anchor holding me steady.

Finally, through the sheets of rain, I spotted a dilapidated shed nestled amongst the trees.  Logic screamed at me - it was a trap, an obvious hiding place. But it was the only option I had.  With a silent prayer, I pushed open the creaking door and stumbled inside.

Collapsing against the rough-hewn wall, I sank to the cold, unforgiving floor.  Pietro, his breathing ragged against my chest, burrowed deeper into my embrace.  We sat in the suffocating darkness, the only sound the pounding of my own heart, a frantic drum echoing the relentless storm raging outside.  The shed offered meagre shelter, a fragile hope against the relentless pursuit that surely awaited us.

"Shh, теперь все в порядке. Мы сделали это, хорошо? (Shh, it's okay now. We did it, okay?)" I whispered, my voice hoarse from exertion.  Pietro barely stirred in my arms, his small body trembling despite the warmth of my jacket.

The shed's interior offered scant comfort. Dust motes danced in the dim light filtering through a cracked window, illuminating a floor littered with wood shavings and the remnants of forgotten projects. A sharp, metallic tang hung in the air, a testament to the tools that once resided here.

Despair gnawed at the edges of my resolve. We had escaped Hydra, for now, but at what cost?  Supplies were nonexistent, and the flimsy walls of the shed offered little protection if they decided to resume their pursuit.   A pang of guilt stabbed at me; I'd been so focused on escape, I hadn't considered what came next.

Suddenly, Pietro stirred in my arms, his voice a small, trembling whisper. "Мне страшно, сисси. (I'm scared, sissy.)"

"Я знаю, Piet. Я тоже, но ты был так храбр для меня сегодня. Очень смелый. (I know, Piet. I am too, but you were so brave for me today. Very brave.)" I offered, forcing a smile that felt brittle on my lips.  Gently, I brushed a stray strand of hair from his face.

"Закрой глаза. Я здесь, с тобой. (Close your eyes. I'm right here with you.)" I murmured, my voice thick with emotion.  He nodded, his small body curling closer, seeking comfort in my embrace.  His eyelids fluttered shut, but I knew sleep wouldn't come easy for either of us.
