The street was alive with people and cars as I walked down the sidewalk. The bright sky showed no sign of rain so I hadn't bothered to bring my umbrella. Tubbo had asked me to get some groceries from the store for Tommy because Puffy wasn't feeling that well. I'm not sure who Puffy is but she seems to be a caretaker.
I'm not sure why a grown-ass adult needs a caretaker but whatever makes Tubbo happy. I pulled the small piece of paper from my pocket as I turned into the driveway. It was Saturday morning so I should have expected it to be this crowded. I could feel people's eyes burning into my back as I bent threw the entrance.
It was rare to see an ender species in the day, a friend of mine told me that. Sneegsnag was the name, it's been a while since I last saw him. He was moving into the SMP with his wife. I hope they're doing okay.
I'm getting sidetracked, what was I doing? Yea, the list.
Milk
Eggs
Pineapple
Vodka
Lemon Juice
Lettuce
Saltine Crackers
Vodka, really? No specifics on brand or since, just vodka. I hope he's not an alcoholic, maybe that's why his kid ended up the way he did. Those poor people really do not know to raise a child. No wonder so many of them are crack heads or homeless.
I grabbed the items and got to the register, a young dog hybrid watched me as I scanned my items. I could see my particles becoming more frantic as he didn't look away. I let out a tiny cry as I rushed to finish. People around me started to look as my breathing became heavier. More eyes, holy shit. I'm going to kill that kid. I could feel my vision fading to purple as the guards cried out.
I am on fire, I am burning, I am hideous.
"Stop looking at me!" I yelled, my mouth foaming.
"Stop looking, this is an order!" Shouted one of the guards as he shoved the kid away.
I covered my face with my hands as I let out slow breaths. I had forgotten what it felt like to be seen. I thought that I had gotten used to it, but no. As soon as I go into the public I have an attack. It's such a hassle bandaging burn scars, especially on my back.
I allowed myself a few more breaths before turning to face them. The burning disappeared and the silence was only disturbed by the crying of children. They all were laying on the ground, hands protecting their necks. I walked over to the dog boy and his mom, when she heard my approach she pulled him closer to her.
"I'm sorry," I muttered "I lost my temper."
"It's okay," the woman responded, her voice quivering.
I rubbed the back of my neck as I went back to scanning.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
As I walked out of the store sounds returned to normal. The loudness of the early fall was settling down as people headed to work. I was off today because I had taken sick leave, it also gave me a whole day to spend with Tubs!
I backtracked to a coffee shop I passed and ordered a cup of coffee and three bagels with cream cheese. Hopefully, Shroud likes bagels, I want to make good impressions, but nothing ever impresses a poor person.
The streets were nearly empty when I finally left the shop, people had gone to work and the ones at home stayed inside. I was walking down the street taking in the scenery only to be disturbed by a small whiney female voice.
"Oh, come on..!" the female whined.
I looked over into the nearby alleyway to see that her groceries had broken through the bag and were now scattered on the floor. Maybe I should offer to help, people like heroes, right?
"Hey!" I called out as I approached, she seemed to be alone so I didn't want to frighten her by appearing out of the blue.
"Oh hello," She replied smiling.
She didn't have any hybrid characteristics about her as far as I could see. Her hair was a milky blonde with pink accents, this complimented her hazel eyes. She wore a baggy button-up flannel along with a pair of checkered black and white Converse and cuffed jeans.
"I saw that you dropped your groceries," I said, smiling back. She had already been staring for too long and I could feel beads of sweat forming on my head.
"Yea, you wouldn't mind helping me carry them to my apartment would you?" She asked, looking away.
I let out a sigh as I thought out my options. Either I decline, walk away, or help her. What could go wrong?
"Sure!" I replied.
I already was holding several of my own bags but what's wrong with carrying a few more? A little weight never hurt anybody—especially someone with thin and fragile bones. I walked behind her as she led us to her apartment, what was a human doing on the hybrid side of town?
Now that I think about it, this whole situation is weird. She left all the spilled groceries on the ground. She offered to take me to her apartment. She is built well enough to carry all these groceries. This might-
"We're here!" she announced, buzzing us in.
She hit the elevator button as a slipped into the lobby. The apparent was barely holding itself together. I could hear the grinding of metal as the elevator struggled to fall to the ground floor. The ceiling of the lobby was far too low. I stood hunched over as my back scraped against the feeling. It took all my might not cringe away from the floors covered in rat fecal matter and the dripping ceiling. I breathed in and out heavily as I adjusted my grip on the bags. This place definitely had several health code violations.
The elevator wheezed with effort as it struggled to open its doors. I moved out the way as two people got off. One was dressed in a white hoodie with a gold necklace and one in a black and gold hoodie that coved their eyes from sight. They walked a ways away but I didn't hear the open and close of the lobby door.
As she got on the elevator I held the door with one hand and held out her groceries with the other. She took them as I heard footsteps approaching from behind.
"Thanks for your help," she said stepping toward me.
"I never caught your name," I questioned taking a step back.
"It's Niki," She laughed. "And I'm afraid you can't leave yet."
