As Sasha, Elle, Jack, and Maggie got closer to Hilltop, they could see the guards who stood at the top of the tall gates with their spears.
Not recognizing them from so far down on the ground, Cal called out. "Who are you and what do you need?"
"Cal, open the gates. Get Paul and Doctor Carson." Elle shouted back.
"You're from the Alexandria group?"
"Just open the gates." Jack quickly responded. Cal turned around to hopefully call Paul over while the other guard, Eduardo, pulled one of the giant doors open to let them through. They walked in, people looking over to see the somewhat strangers.
"What's going on?" Paul rushed over to them, Doctor Carson right behind him.
"Negan, he found us." Elle wiped at her forehead, trying to hide the fact that she was going to start crying again. At the mention of the name, Paul realized that it was bodies they were carrying. He led them over to an unoccupied corner where they could dig graves while Doctor Carson led Maggie away.
"Who is it?" Paul whispered to Sasha as they set the wrapped bodies on the ground.
"Glenn and Abraham. We were trying to get Maggie here, they kept stopping us until they eventually surrounded us." She explained as Elle found a shovel nearby. She shoved it into the ground, scooping up dirt.
She gripped the handle so tight, calluses could form on her palms. She used what little strength she had left to force the metal into the ground, putting her foot on it to get as much as she possibly could.
"They forced everyone to the ground, even Maggie, and made us watch him kill Glenn and Abraham. Then he almost made Rick cut Carl's arm off because he didn't like how Rick looked at him." Jack explained, running his fingers through his hair. "I wanted- I wanted to look away. I really did, but I couldn't." His voice broke. Paul pulled him in for a hug as he began to cry again. The trauma they all endured last night would never go away.
Elle continued taking her anger out on the ground as she dug the graves. Sasha stared at the ground, crossing her arms. Elle sighed, holding out another shovel. "Come on," she offered. "I know you get angry when you're upset, I've seen it. Take advantage of it." Sasha nodded, taking the shovel before copying Elle's actions, creating a new grave.
Paul and Jack sat on the ground and Elle and Sasha continued attacking the dirt, making two holes sufficient enough for the size of the bodies. The two set their shovels standing up against the wall before walking over to the bodies.
As Sasha braced herself and firmly grabbed Abraham's body, Elle told her to wait. "I need to grab something." She took a deep breath as she began unwrapping the blanket, making sure to keep Glenn's head covered. She crouched down to make it easier as she rolled him on his side. In his back pocket, she found what she was looking for. She reached over and grabbed the pocket watch, wondering how the saviors didn't see it and decide to take it as a souvenir. When she pulled it out, something else fell out of his pocket as well.
She picked the item up, almost breaking down on the spot. In her hands was a small, worn down block of wood large enough to stack a single quarter on it. On the other side was a bad drawing of a butterfly and her name written in a white colored pencil, which had become harder to read over the years. She set the items down carefully next to her before she wrapped Glenn's body back up. "Maggie should be here for this." She whispered.
"Okay, we'll wait." Paul agreed. Elle bit her bottom lip as she tried to take a deep breath in attempt to stop the tears from running down her face.
One week later, like promised, Negan and a large group of Saviors showed up to Alexandria for their first pick up. The Saviors were taking everything, from weapons down to mattresses and books. Of course, to taunt Rick as well as his family, Negan brought an imprisoned Daryl along with him.
