It was around noon when the Saviors left, and the group discovered that one of their own, Gabriel, had raided their pantry and left. He left some sort of message, letting someone know where he went. Rick took a small group with him and Aaron, as they knew exactly where to find him.
"Where are you going?" Jack asked as he saw Elle making her way towards the gate.
"We need food, Jack. Come with me if you want, either way, I'm going." She spoke, not sparing a glance in his direction as she pulled the gate open. Jack released a sigh as he decided to go with her, pulling the gate closed as someone locked it from the other side.
"What exactly to you plan on finding? Any store nearby was cleared out." He asked, catching up with her.
"Anything. Canned, hunted, I don't care."
"And how long do you plan to look before giving up?"
"I won't give up." She looked at him, almost offended by the suggestion. Jack sighed, deciding to keep quiet as they made their way into the woods.
As the sun began setting, Elle had made no efforts to make her way back home, as they were empty handed. Jack on the other hand, was urging for them to turn back so they could make it back before it got dark. "They're hungry, Jack."
"I know, but you can't really think that we're going to find enough food for everyone right now." He was right. She didn't believe that she was capable of doing that, but she wanted to help. She almost felt.. useless just sitting around waiting for other people to solve their problems. Elle sighed as she stopped walking, throwing her head back. Jack stopped as well, seeing that he was finally getting through to her.
"Okay, let's go back." Elle turned around as she began walking toward the direction they came from.
"Maybe tomorrow." Jack said as he followed close behind. She didn't respond at his attempts to make her feel better as she stepped over tree roots and twigs. He only let out a small sigh behind her as he copied her actions in their way back to the walled community.
The next morning, everyone had come back from finding Gabriel. They found him, and a new group of people. Rick brought back plenty of guns, making a deal with the new group, gaining their help in the fight against the Saviors.
Rick and Michonne went on a mission to find more guns and food, leaving the town with a couple of uneventful days as they sat around trying not to starve.
When Rick and Michonne returned with plenty of food an artillery, things started to look better for the community. Although, Rick started asking questions when Rosita didn't cover her guard shift one night. Nobody had seen her leave, therefore nobody had answers for the man.
While asking around, Tara had told Rick something he wish he had told her sooner. She knew of a place called Oceanside that had a guarded, yet loaded, armory.
"Do you ever think about who you've killed?" Enid asked as her, Elle, and Carl stood behind bushes as they waited. Tara stood next to them, keeping a sharp eye out.
"Yeah." Carl nodded, readjusting the gun her held in his arms.
"I try not to." Elle spoke honestly, looking over the body of water they stood fairly close to, watching as the rest of the group grew closer in the boat they sat in.
"Let's go." Tara said, beginning to walk away. The kids followed, the adults not too far behind as they pulled up to the shore. The plan wasn't overly complicated, but it wasn't super simple either. Anything could go wrong at any given moment, and that small thing could decide whether or not everyone makes it out of here alive.
