Chapter 22

With the death of Wesley, things changed at Syntec. Deb quickly went missing almost immediately after Wesley's death letting everyone believe she was the one to do it. The company started to become corrupted as Nelson began to become more greedy and money hungry. He reverted all of my changes, immediately starting more human trials with unstable serum. Ben was also now under the influence of serum under the orders of Nelson himself and Autumn was back to being glued to Nelson's hip

With me being extremely close to my due date, I wasn't able to confront Nelson about the changes being made. All I could do was watch from afar and witness the horrors that were happening here at the company. Gary was also at my side through it all. Watching alongside me. Even he thought Nelson was starting to power hungry. Gary looks at me as we watch another patient flatline from an overdose of serum. 

"Y/N we need to do something about this?" Gary whispers to me. 

"What can we do Gary?" I whisper back. 

"Convince him? Stop him?" Gary whispers back. 

"He's not going to stop. Even I couldn't convince him at this point." I whisper back. "And why do you care? He's making progress I'm sure the government is happy" 

"The government isn't happy with people dying on a daily basis Y/N" Gary whispers to me. 

I sigh slightly pressing my hand to my swollen belly. Anyday now I could have Natalia and she would be in the clutches of this man who I no longer recognized. Suddenly I could feel the pressure in my belly release as the liquid ran down my leg letting me know my water had broke. 

"Gary..." I say quickly grabbing his arm as the first contraction hits m. 

"Wha-" Gary quickly notices why I was grabbing him. "Shit okay. I'll find Nelson" Gary grabs the closest Scientist to us pulling them over. "Watch her," He says before he takes off running. 

I take a deep breath as I try to work through my first contraction. The scientist Gary pulled over to me and allowed me to hold their arm as tightly as I needed. I squeeze my eyes tightly as the contraction increases in pain. 

"Fuck" I mumble just as someone familiar grabs my arm.

"I got you" I hear Nelson say pulling me into him. "Let's get you to the hospital" 

The contraction stops allowing me to walk to the car and get in. Another contraction starts up just as Nelson starts to drive. I tense up as I lean my head back against the seat of the chair. Nelson reaches over to grab my hand which I quickly pull away. 

"Don't touch me" I growl in pain. 

"Babe," Nelson says gently. 

"You caused this" I growl to him. 

"I know I did. That is my baby in there" Nelson says smirking. 

"Shut. Up" I spat. 

"What is with you? You have been like this a lot recently" Nelson asks. 

I groan in pain as I clutch my belly slightly "What is with me, Nelson? Really? I'm about to push out our baby and you are asking me what's with me" I growl at him.

"Yes, I am. You have had an attitude with me since Wesley passed. You wanted him gone remember" Nelson says. 

"Because you went back to experimenting on people! You changed the things I put in place" I spat.

"We are making so much progress Y/N," Nelson says as we pull into the parking lot of the hospital. 

"Yet so many people are dying," I say as I try to get out of the car on my own once we were parked. 

"Y/N come on let's not discuss this right now. We are about to have our baby" Nelson says running around to help me.

"How can I know Natalia will be safe around you," I say looking up at him with tears in my eyes. 

"Baby..." Nelson says with a hurt expression. "I would never hurt you or Natalia. You guys are so much more important to me." 

"Then shut it down," I say before another contraction hits. 

"Can we talk about this after Natalia is born?" Nelson asks. 

I reluctantly nod allowing Nelson to get me into the hospital where we spent the next 12 hours having Natalia. Natalia looked so much like her dad which made my heart melt. I looked down at her tiredly as I hold her close to me. Nelson goes to take her from me noticing I was falling asleep but I pull her away from him. 

"Baby..." Nelson says. "Please don't do this"

"Shut it down" I whisper tiredly. "Please for our sake"

"That's my life's work. You can't just ask me to shut it down" Nelson says to me. 

I look up at him with tears in my eyes. "You once told me you would give up your company for Natalia and I. Why won't you do it now?" I ask. 

Nelson watches as the tears spill down my face. I pull Natalia closer not wanting Nelson to have her. Nelson sighs as he kneels down beside my hospital bed. He gently grabs my hand. "Okay fine. I will shut it down" Nelson says. 

I smile gently at him as I finally hand him, Natalia. I watch with tired eyes as he looks down at his daughter lovingly holding her protectively in his arms. He looks up at me as I finally let myself rest for the first time since I had Natalia. 

"I love you, my love," Nelson says kissing my head gently. "Thank you for giving me, my beautiful daughter"
