There was something comforting about talking to yourself when the shit was being scared out of you. That was all Josephine did while walking around complaining to herself about Zed, her parents, her brother, Addison, Zoey... her grumbles turned dark and violent, something she would never apologize for.
An hour.
A whole fucking hour of walking through the woods and Josephine was pretty sure she was back where she had started with the same twisted trees and annoyingly sinister looking... everything. The human sat down on a large root and stared out into the forest, trying to figure out what to do now.
Her eyes flickered over to a branch snapping and her scowl deepened.
"I swear to God if you're planning on killing me and are just drawing it out for giggles I will lose my shit."
It went eerily quiet and Josephine was just not in the mood for whatever horror movie bullshit that was happening.
Her eyes wandered the treelike and landed on a person's outline. "Zed, I don't care if you have a cheat code bracelet... I will tear off your head."
Zed didn't move and Josephine's scowl turned to a frown as she stood up and took a step closer to the figure. "Zed?" The zombie still didn't respond as she walked closer to slap the teen silly but she paused as she examined the outline further.
Her heart ran a marathon and icy cold fear shot through her veins as her eyes focused on a clear shot of the person in front of her. Instead of green hair there was dark brown with an eerily familiar shade of white streaked through.
"Holy shit, you are not Zed." Josephine blurted out taking a few steps back and tripping over the large roots. She quickly pushed herself up and watched as the unfamiliar teen smirked almost dangerously. Her fists tightened and so did her heart as she took up a defensive stance ready for a fight. "I will rip out your eyeballs and feed them to my zombie friend!"
The threats seemed to wave off the boy casually and he only tilted his head. His eyes scanned the human and Josephine felt offended.
"Pervert!"
The boy's smirk dropped into a frown and looked taken aback.
"Am not!"
Josephine blinked, the voice coming out was nothing what she imagined. It was deep for a teenager and strong. It seemed perfect for the dark forest and reminded her of the quiet mystery of a calm autumn night.
"You were looking at my body!"
"I was seeing if you were a threat!" He crossed his arms and smirked condescendingly. "But you're nothing more than a poodle."
"Come over here and say that to my face, you bastard!" Josephine waved her right fist angrily at the boy. "I'll actually end you."
"I bet you don't even know where you are." He mocked jumping from his spot and walking towards Josephine. The human took a few step backs and wanted to kick herself for being unconsciously afraid of the danger in front of her. "You've been walking aimlessly for an hour, muttering some pretty colorful threats."
"Listen, if you want to kill me let me go kill a certain green haired pest before I go." She tried to not make it a beg, but fuck there was something about being alone with someone you didn't know that made the girl want to bolt. Every step forward made her step back carefully, trying to avoid tripping again. "Just show me the way and I'll come back for my death."
He chuckled and shook his head. "No you won't."
Josephine shrugged and admitted the truth easily. "Yeah, fuck that. I'd be long gone."
