Josephine would never get used to the sight of a fully monstered out Zed, she decided, rooted in fear.

He had been holding her hostage with a grin until his wrist sparked and he doubled over in pain. When the zombie lifted his head, the monster was back and Josephine was thrown back to freshman year when she almost had a heart attack.

"O-oh." The girl squeaked at the roar that came out of Zed's lips and the panic that ensued. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she tried to shake off the fear and reminded herself that Zed controlled himself and did not eat her that day. "H-hey, Zed? It's okay, man."

The zombie let out a roar and turned towards Josephine with pain on his face. "Seriously, Zed. Knock it off and get your shit together. It's just a little bit of hunger, no big deal."

Even in his state, Zed looked in disbelief at the teen and Josephine winced. "Yeah, I don't what else to say man. I'm sorry." Josephine watched a smile break onto Zed's face at the awkward reply and hope soared through her.

But it was quickly squashed as Bucky started to agitated the zombie, causing him to turn away from his human friend and towards the podium. Josephine scowled, fed up with the cheer captain jumped up on stage angrily.

"Oi, leave him alone!" Josephine pushed Bucky away from the zombie and shoved herself between the two despite the fear of being close to the face that sometime gave her nightmares. "You're actually disgusting."

"No, I'm winning." Bucky corrected with a sassy snap, before smirking at the girl. "Better watch out, monster behind you."

Josephine quickly turned around and saw the struggling Zed. Her heart was thumping in her chest a marathon, but she took in a deep breathe and took a step forward.

Zed held out a hand towards the human and let out a distorted roar of a No! as a warning to get away from him, but Josephine swallowed the fear and continued.

"Look, Zed. You didn't hurt me then, you won't hurt me now. Even though you've become a grade A asshole, you're still my best friend." Josephine started to grow more and more determinate with each word, even thought the fear stayed the same. "You can do this, just... breathe."

The zombie shook with the overwhelming desire to just eat, but was suppressed by Zed's longing to fit in. His eyes stared into Josephine's and though his fists clenched the podium tightly, he started to shake less at the human's continued presence.

Josephine let out a breathe of relief and smiled crookedly, trying to hide that her heart was most likely well over 140 bpm at the moment, and sagged her shoulders. "Okay, so now-"

"Boo."

Bucky had ruined the moment, scaring Josephine intentionally and startling Zed out of his calming moment.

All the zombie had wanted was to protect Josephine, but instead the whip of his arms had smacked the human in the temple and off the stage.

Her had smacked the ground.

Zed ripped the wolf necklace off his Z-Band and stared in horror at the unmoving human. The cafeteria turned auditorium was deathly silent before all eyes went from Josephine to the perpetuator.

"Jett!"

The football team rushed into action, humans and zombies, having been used to concussions on the field. JG led the expedition while Principal Lee tried to calm the students down.

"Zed..." Eliza started, but the zombie had already started running away and she followed behind. "Zed, wait!"

"I hurt her, Eliza!" Zed spat out with hurt in his eyes. He looked at his hands and clenched them, the feeling of pure hunger a haunted memory in his veins. "I lost the election and, and... This is the second time I've lost control and hurt Jett."
