"Want to go to Prawn with me?"

"Not allowed, poodle."

"Right, right." Josephine nodded in understanding. "Still a racist town."

Wyatt snorted from his perch on the branch above. Josephine kept her butt firmly on the ground below him, more than okay with not joining him where she could fall and break her neck.

"Thanks for getting my work for me, by the way. I'm both nervous and impressed with how you managed to sneak into my bedroom without my parents knowing."

"A useful skill." Wyatt winked with a wolffish grin, Josephine chuckling at the flirt. "I could-"

The wolf was cut off by a series of coughs that he tried to swallow but that only made them come out more violently. Wyatt turned his head away from the human, coughing into his arm. Josephine stood up in concern as she watched her friend's necklace fade in color while he hacked up a lung.

"Fuck, Wyatt." Josephine breathed out in extreme concern. "There has to be something we can do!"

Wyatt hit his chest a few times to compose himself and turned back to the human with a weak smile. "I'm fine, poodle. Don't you worry about me."

"You're impossible."

"Hey, just because you're a normal boring human isn't my fault."

"I'm a 5'10 girl who can run faster than a zombie with his Z-Band on." Josephine said dryly with hands on her hips. "That doesn't necessarily scream normal, dog brain."

"Hold up, 5'10"?" Wyatt asked incredulously, jumping down from the tree into a perch. When he got up his eyes were narrowed at the girl and Josephine looked at him like he was crazy. Which he was. "Turn around. I'm definitely taller than you."

"In no way are you taller than me." Josephine teased, but complied. The werewolf followed his own command too, pushing his butt against hers and then used his hand to measure their height. "We're the same height, idiot."

"Damn." Wyatt cursed, the two teens looking back each other. Josephine chucked and took a step forward to pat her friend on the head. "Oooo, that's nice."

Josephine smirked and pulled her hand away, Wyatt scowling as he realized that he had basically just acted like a pet dog. "Not a word of this."

"Word of what?"

"Exactly."

They were close together, within a foot, and they realized it slowly. Wyatt bit his lip and considered something very carefully before taking a step closer.

"Poodle." He started softly, a hand grabbing her own and bringing her closer. Josephine watched with baited breathe as the wolf very obviously debated kissing her.

So, she leaned in and their lips met.

For her first kiss, Josephine decided it could have been way worse. His lips were warm, rough, and tasted of the Forrest. It felt like a cup of coffee on a cool autumn morning, staring out into the rain and listening to the thunder outside.

Josephine's favorite moments were sitting under a canopy in a storm, watching the rain hydrate the earth, and smelling the beautiful earthy scent released in gratitude.

Too bad she didn't like coffee.

Josephine and Wyatt pulled away and looked at each other. Her eyes looked into his, and his into hers, deeply and enjoyed the closeness of another being for a little while longer.

Until they both smiled crookedly filled with nerves, unsure how to tell the other person how they felt. But they both bursted out laughing at the similar looks because they realized neither of them felt anything romantic.
