A broken tibia, a slab cast, and tons of drugs later Josephine woke up in the hospital with her brother asleep in the chair next to her. An NFL game played on the small TV in the room and Josephine didn't bother remembering who was playing.
She sighed, thinking about the past 24 hours. Thankfully, the doctor didn't suggest any metal for her leg. He was confident that with her age and health, the bone would fuse naturally with the cast on within 4 to 5 months. All she had to do was stay for 48 hours under watch to ensure that the cast would do its job properly and then she'd be under strict instructions for the following months.
Torture.
She'd go back to school two weeks later and somehow Wyatt had started bringing her her homework. To her chagrin being injured did not mean you could stop all school work.
Dumb.
It started with him sneaking in through the window, but his sickness eventually gave him away one night as he fell to his knees coughing violently and the noise brought in her mother and father.
Were they upset that a boy was in her room?
Yes.
We're they upset that the boy was a werewolf?
Errr, also yes.
But one look at the pathetic looking boy made Jackie frown and set a hand on his forehead, Josephine watching tensely for an attack. Her dad was holding a Z-Pole between two clenched fists - like it would do anything - and looked so intimidating in his minion slippers.
When Wyatt explained that he had been dropping off and picking up school work for Josephine, the Jackson parents immediately softened and showed him that the front door worked just as well.
When the nurse had tried getting the hospital to take the species in, they took one look at her and laughed.
Why would they let wild beasts into a place of healing?
If there was one think Jacqueline Jackson was know for it was for being incredibly stubborn. She had gone the farthest into Zombie Town all those years ago for the light bulb and she never backed down from a challenge.
Jackie started an independent care service twice a week during the night to help out the wolves in their own den.
Some of the guys from the football team came by and visited Josephine too. Adrian made sure to comment on how wide her queen sized bed was with a wag of his eyebrows and Preston silenced him with a wack on the back of the head.
JG had brought the ball from the game and a sharpie with the announcement that they had demolished the team 64 to 22. She signed the ball happily. The team ended up pulling in chairs and cushions to her bedroom to watch the game on a projector to her wall.
Percy was always prepared.
When the accident happened on screen, she had winced but the boys started to boo and throw popcorn and candy at the wall. Percy sped past the dramatic announcers and to the continuation of the game and Josephine watched in awe at the fiercely beautiful game that followed.
Jackie cooked dinner for the team and they ate happily, discussing the plays and joking with each other happily.
There was no Zed sadly. Adrian and Preston had taken up part of her bed, JG stole her desk chair, Percy perched on a couch cousin and used the wall as a back rest, and Hector pulled in a chair from the dining room.
Eventually they turned on some college football until it was time to leave.
The most surprising visit of all?
