Josephine didn't even care she was on an alien spaceship. In fact, she was so unfazed with the new technology when she woke up that she had immediately set to glaring at whoever was in the room with her starting with a certain red head.
"Okay, okay I know this probably doesn't make much sense to you but—!"
"What the fuck Adrian!" Josephine interrupted from the bed she sat cross-legged on, throwing her hands up and looking expectantly over at the rather sheepish redhead scratching the back of his head. "You're helping the aliens?"
"Okay, so fun fact here." Adrian began nervously, looking anywhere but the human girl as he fidgeted with his hands. "I am an alien, ta-dah!" He gave some jazz hands out in a showcase of himself while Josephine watched unperturbed but even more annoyed. "Hahaha, you're... you're not laughing..."
"Adrian Keys, as far as I'm concerned the aliens have become enemy number one in my books after taking away my free will." Josephine bit out, not even a tad bit playful. Adrian swallowed thickly and nodded his head a few times while Josephine stared for a few seconds, trying to figure out his piece of the puzzle. "So why aren't you all blue and fucked up... or their fucked up anyways."
"Soooooo, you know how I'm adopted?"
"Starting to make more sense every day."
"Well," Adrian held the 'l' for longer than necessary, moving his head back and forth comically as he put the explanation together. "My pod was sent after the scout ship about a decade ago and, uh, here I am!"
"...Keys, I swear to whatever higher power still exists—."
"Okay, okay! A pod is like a family unit. Our species' children don't stay with their birth parents, instead we go in pods of adults and two children. These adults are, uh, trained to be parents and have their emotions turned on a little bit." Adrian held up his thumb and pointer finger over a squinted eye, but Josephine's face remained Stoney, so he cleared his throat and continued. "I, uh, was already supposed to be a scout unit—"
"Assigned from birth?"
"Yeah, exactly!" Adrian grinned and Josephine's own lips twitched at the bright eyed, bushy tailed ginger - which pissed her off even more because she was supposed to be pissed - and rolled her eyes. "Anyways, long mission, my pod got selected blah blah, but uh..." Adrian bit the inside of his cheek and looked away, and Josephine frowned at the devastation on Adrian's face.
"...Keys?" Josephine asked hesitantly, leaning forward slowly and stretching out a hand to place on his shoulder.
"Earth's gravity is... different. I'm not... a scientist, but TLDR we crashed and... I was the only one who made it."
"Christ." Josephine breathed out, eyebrows raised as she sat back on the bed and looked over at the sullen red head. "Adrian, I'm..." what could she say? There wasn't a lot to understand for her or relate to, so out of respect for her teammate she swallowed her feelings down and remained quiet for Adrian.
"Emotions don't get turned off until we reach puberty." Adrian tried a smirk and a waggle of eyebrows, but it only looked depressing his hand brushed through his hair with a sigh, pulling a few locks down to look at them over his eyes. "I don't know why it turned red, but I assume it's because I was destined to be smokin' hot, just like my origin story."
"Adrian!" Josephine admonished, but a grin overtook her face at the dark joke. She tried to hide it, but it was too late as Adrian immediately stood up from his chair and pointed at the juman girl with a victorious grin.
"Ah ha! I knew I could get you to smile! God, you're face gets so depressing sometimes, seriously." Josephine immediately scowled, scrambling up from the bed while Adrian's grin only grew at the intense look in her eyes. "Awe, sweet baby human wants to hit me."
