Whoa I have two oneshots in a row named A Dream and then Nightmare :DD

I have managed to momentarily cease my Rancher Duo obsession!!!

... But the Tango obsession is still very much here. ( ╹▽╹ )

In the first part, he's young. I don't know how young, just... Young. He's a kid. Like, 7 or 8?

Personalities are so wrong-

Warnings: Panic attack, I think PTSD, threat of death, triggers for autophobia and monophobia

Word Count: 895

His footsteps sounded hollow against the netherrack. They were much too loud in the silence that taunted him.

He gulped, and his eyes stung. He was not going to cry. He was tough. Tough, Tango, tough.

"Hello...?" He called out tentatively, his voice no louder than a whisper.

A rustle came from behind a warped tree. He hesitated. "Mom...? Dad...?"

He rounded the corner, and came face to face with... A thing.

He had no idea what the thing was, but it looked scary. It noticed his presence, causing it to turn towards him.

Wait, no, he'd seen this before... It was a... a ... Dammit, why hadn't he paid attention in his lessons?!

It was a piglin! A zombie piglin.

And it grunted in his face.

He let out a small squeak-scream and ran. He had to get out of there, fast.

He ran.

And ran.

And ran.

What did it do?

Nothing.

Well...

It actually did.

It, in fact, made things so much worse.

For, you see, he was so busy running that he did not look where he was going.

And he didn't see the piglin brute that he was about to run into until he ran into it.

He gasped and looked up at it, his breathing getting heavier. It peered down at him, and apparently decided it did not like him, for it growled and raised its axe.

Tango screamed.

And, once again, he ran.

But this time it was quite reasonable, for he was being chased. And he could actually die.

He couldn't stop screaming as he ran, as he ran and ran and ran.

He ducked under branches, scrambled over netherrack, nearly tripped over mushrooms, and just ran, still screaming.

He ran until his legs felt numb, and tears ran down his cheeks, hot tears.

He couldn't hear the piglin anymore... Could it have given up? He wasn't taking any chances.

So still he ran, until he was physically incapable of running any further.

He collapsed in the shelter of a fortress, and the poor boy full on broke down.

He sobbed, hugging himself tightly out of loneliness. Only now did he realise how hot his tears felt.

He tried to breathe slowly, like his parents had always told him.

S l o w l y.

Slowly.

No, because you're all alone all by yourself with no-one around to help and you're gonna die, you're gonna die alone, all alone, so so alone and-

And then he realised his tail was on fire.

And, once more, he screamed.

He tried shaking it to put it out, but his attempts were useless. The more panicked he became, the bigger the flame grew.

Everything was hot, much too hot, but it didn't seem to affect him.

What the hell was going on?!!!!

You're all alone-

His vision started going red, and he clutched his head.

He didn't realise that he was very close to the edge of the fortress.

Not until he was already falling.

He screamed, the last thing he heard before he hit the lava.

~~~
He shot up in bed, screaming.
Everything was red again, everything was-
"TANGO!"
A voice. Thank God, a voice, a voice, he wasn't alone-
"Tango, breathe!!! Deep breaths!"
He tried.
"Tango, I'm going to get a bucket of water, okay? Tango, breathe! Hang in there Tango, please!"
~~~

It was a few minutes later, when Tango's wrists were being held in cool water, that his breathing calmed slightly.

"There we go. Can you take a deep breath for me?"

Tango breathed in through his nose, and out through his mouth.

He opened his eyes.

"Zed?"

"I'm here, I'm here. I'm right here, and everything's okay. Okay?"

"Okay."

Tango pulled his knees to his chest and Zed sat down beside him gently.

"Can I ask what happened...?"

The Netherborne sniffed.

"I had the memories again..."

"Oh, Tango."

Tango let himself be pulled into a hug, a much needed hug.

He curled into Zed and cried, sobbing into his jacket while the other stroked his hair and whispered soothing words into his ear.

"Ssshhhh, it's okay. It's all okay."

"I- I was so- alone!" He choked.

"No you weren't, it was a dream. All just a silly dream. You're not alone, because I'm right here. And I always will be."

Tango managed to smile.

"Th- thank you, Zed."

"Anytime."

They stayed there for a long while, and Tango's sobs subsided.

"Zed...?"

"Mm hm?"

"I.... I'm really tired but I don't... I don't want to be all by myself again..."

"You go to sleep, lovely. I'm not going anywhere."

And so the Netherborne let his exhaustion consume him, falling asleep in Zed's arms.

And for once, he didn't worry about being alone, because he knew he wasn't. He felt more loved than he had ever done before. He felt happy.
