"Are you going to the game, tonight?"
The question that's been buzzing and floating around the entire school for the entire day. Well, entire morning.
It is only ten twenty one.
Second period.
"Hey, El"
"Oh hey, Krista, what's up?"
Krista Delane. You remember Krista, right? Beckinsale Carter's best friend. Well, besides my brother.
"I was just wondering if you and the girls were going to the game tonight. I was hoping I would have someone to sit next to that is not annoying" she says as she smiles awkwardly.
"Lillian's friends?" I ask as I spot them at the back of the classroom.
Krista nods, "uh huh, yeah, don't get me wrong, I am always nice enough to give people chances but, those girls and Jay are next level"
"That's an awfully nice way of saying they're annoying enough to the point where you wanna scratch your ears off"
We laugh as we continue talking about the game.
To be honest, I still don't exactly know if I want to go. Although, Henry will be playing and it might be my last chance to spend time with him and see him before he leaves afterwards to go on his family trip.
Don't get me wrong, San Francisco isn't really that far away and I'm excited for him, of course but, it's just the length of his trip that kind of bothers me.
Instead of going for the normal few weeks, his family are staying for just over a month because they're thinking about relocating.
Again.
"I wonder if Henry will stay for senior year next year or if he'll decide to move with his family" Krista captures my attention with the open ended question.
"Oh, you have heard?" I ask.
She nods her head awkwardly with a small smile, "uh yeah, I overheard the guys talking about it yesterday and made me think of how you were taking the news, so how are you?"
I think about it for a moment.
"I'm... okay, to be honest, I would be happy for Henry either way although, I would be more stoked if he decides to stay, of course " I reply with a chuckle as I start taking the last of the notes for this class.
"True true" Krista follows suit as we turn back to the front continuing on with the lesson.
-
After the lunch bell had rang, I made an extra effort to zoom, as swiftly as possible, through the school halls to get to the cafeteria.
Mere and Eleanor had another Homecoming committee meeting and so, Henry and I had decided it would be nice if we had gotten lunch together for the last time for the next few weeks.
Well, a little over a month.
But, who's counting?
"So, Elaine Dearly, have you made up your mind about the game and the fact that you possibly will not be seeing me for a little over a month and you'd just drown in your reality tv and sweats and-"
"Shush" I interrupt Henry as I lightly place a hand to cover his mouth.
Just as I'm about to continue speaking, I feel a slight wetness along the palm of my hand, "did you just lick my hand?"
"Yuf I dig"
"What?"
He takes hold of my hand in his and keeps them to his chest as he replies, "yes, I did"
