Monday. The first day I’d have to face Bethany since our fight. What’s even worse is that I’ll have to get changed by her in the locker room. Awkward.
But it’s also the first day I’d have seen Harry since our study date. I forgot to get his number, so we didn’t even communicate over the two-day span. I hadn’t realized how much I missed him until I saw him Monday morning. My face broke into a smile and my heart fluttered. I had to hold myself back from skipping or running towards him.
“Harry!” I called once I was in ear shot. He looked up from the group of popular guys he was surrounded by. He was sitting on top of a table with the guys all sitting around him as if he were king. All the girls politely stared from a distance. I felt as if I had to go grab him and pull him across the universe in order to escape the looks they gave him. They looked like the epitome of temptation. And Harry just kindly smiled at them, attempting to shake the trestle of girls at his heels.
He hopped down from his position and hurried past the girls and wriggled out of the circle of guys.
“Hi Ency,” Harry grinned, embracing me in a hug. His back was to the girls, but I could see them all lined up on the wall, staring. I wanted to tell them we weren’t up for show and that they needed to walk away. But I didn’t want to ruin this moment with Harry. So I just glared at them. Most of them took the hint, except for Rachel and her posse.
Harry let me go and just stared at me. His eyes seemed to dig holes in mine. I smiled kindly up at him, trying to hide the discomfort that his constant gaze brought upon me.
Suddenly Harry’s arms were tugged away from me as he stumbled backwards. As his tall frame turned away from me, it revealed his captors. Rachel.
“Hey, Haz,” She whispered seductively. Harry looked down at her uncomfortably.
“Hello, Rachel.” He stated emotionlessly.
“You are a gorgeous lad, you know that?” She complimented, tapping her acrylics on his shoulders. “And a gorgeous lad like you is just perfect for a gorgeous lady like me.”
Harry stared down at her, his eyes wide like a deer in headlights.
“Yeah… I don’t-” He began, but Rachel quickly cut him off and planted a long kiss on his lips.
“Just think about that,” She whispered as she retreated from the kiss. She strutted off with her friends and disappeared around the corner.
“Excuse me?” I demanded. I glared at where Rachel stood. Harry looked at me as if he was scared.
“I didn’t like it.” He spoke quickly, in a hushed tone as if he didn’t want anyone to hear.
“You better not have, Haz,” I snapped. He could tell I was angry. Anyone could’ve told that I was angry. But I wasn’t angry at Harry, just Rachel. But I did feel a little twinge of fury towards him because he didn’t immediately pull away when she planted a wet one.
“Why didn’t you push her off!?” I inquired as the thought hit my mind. Harry looked a little taken aback at my suddenly sharp tone.
“I… I didn’t want to be rude,” He stuttered. My jaw dropped.
“You care about her feelings...?”
“No, no. Hardly. I just- no. Ency, you’re the only girl I care about at this point.” He told me as he took my hands. I smiled up at him. He was so romantic. I was about to plant a forgiveness kiss, but then the bell rang. We were separated instantly by the quick-growing crowd surging through the halls.
