After leaving the trailer, you couldn't stop the tears from flowing. You couldn't tell if they were from what your mom had said to Eddie months ago or because you and Eddie had your first official fight. You and Eddie have fought before, but it was over clothes, cuddling, or food. Silly couple fights that you two could laugh about afterward. But this was a whole different level. Words were said, tears were shed, and it got to the point where space was needed. You didn't even look back at Eddie as you walked to June's house.
When you make it to June's house, you knock on her door, hoping she's home. She doesn't say anything as she sees your tear-stained cheeks. June lets you in and then walks into the kitchen to grab something to drink for the both of you. As you plop down onto her couch, you grab a pillow and release the frustrated scream you've been holding onto since you left. June freezes as she watches you release your anger into the cushion, then sighs because she knows something is definitely wrong.
"Val?" June softly says as she walks over to the couch to hand you a drink, which you take it instantly and chug it, "What's wrong?" She asks while sitting down beside you.
You sigh as you run your free hand through your hair, "Eddie and I had our first official fight, and I feel like I messed up. Things were said, and it just hurts to hear them repeat in my head." June gasps audibly, "You and Eddie are fighting? No, you and Eddie never fight, it's always sunshine and rainbows!"
It may seem as if June was being sarcastic but she wasn't, it was true, it's always sunshine and rainbows with you and Eddie because you both had a level of understanding with one another. This is the first time Eddie has ever hid something from you and in a way, you felt hurt at the fact that he so easily kept it from you.
You sat up and hugged the pillow you had just screamed into and that's when June had enough, "Nope, get up. I'm getting you all prettied up and then you're going to a party with me." June says while tugging on your arms to stand you up.
"Leave me here to wallow in my self pity." You groan while letting your entire body weight go. June grunts and collapses with you, "Valerie Mae Wheeler, stop it right now." June demands as she pushes you off of her and stand up. You groan again as you suck up your pity and follow June into her bedroom. She gets to work on your hair first as you sit there in silence. You want to be happy for having some girl time with June, but the pain in your heart took away the happiness.
You got lost in your thoughts, drowning out the noises around you. You must've been in your thoughts for a while to not realize that June was done with your hair and now is working on your make-up because you felt her tug on your eyelids to put on the eyeshadow. After another thirty minutes, June had done what she said she would do. You were all prettied up, but your outfit was the only thing left to do. She digs in her closet for an outfit for you, then begins working on her make-up as you got dressed.
After you got dressed, June gasps when she sees you. "Val, you look amazing!" She squeals while getting up from her vanity. You do a slight turn as you look in the mirror, "You think?" You ask. You can tell your mood is not up for the party and maybe you should go back to the trailer to fix things with Eddie instead of going to this party June has been going on about for the past hour. "I don't think I should go. I'm probably going to go home and talk with Eddie-" You say, but June stops you. "Val, you need to go, plus, Eddie will be there. You guys can have fun and talk there at the same time. It'll be fine. Okay?" June suggests while giving your hand a squeeze.
You sigh because you know June will continue nudging you to accept, so you nod and hope she's right about tonight. "Perfect! Now, come on, we need to go get Robin. She wants us to save her from hearing about Steve's unsuccessful dating life." She laughs while grabbing her purse and keys.
You both make your way to June's car and get in, June hands you a small box of tapes and smiles, "I'll let you pick the music." She insisted. You nod your head and look through the music and grab a tape. As you were about to put the tape on June sighs, "No sad music either, Val."
You pull the tape out and roll your eyes at the fact that she already knew you all too well. You grab a Blondie tape and put it in, letting the first track play. June smiles, "There the badass bitch I know!" She cheers as Call Me by Blondie plays over the radio.
Once you arrived at Steve's house, Robin immediately runs to the car and jumps in the back seat. "I owe you guys my life, Steve was telling me about Heidi and I could feel myself getting so bored it." Robin complains as she shoots to the middle seat and pulls her seatbelt on.
"Val, you okay?" Robin asks while resting her hand on your shoulder, "I'm fine, why?" You responded while looking back at her. Robin shrugs, "You're quiet and when I mentioned Heidi you didn't make that face you usually do or make a joke about Steve."
June looks at Robin through the rear view mirror, "Eddie and Val are fighting right now." June says as she looks back to the road. Robin gasps and grabs your face to make you look at her, "Babe, are you okay?" Robin asks in a concerned matter. You slowly nod your head, "It's just unbelievable that he and I would fight like this." You confess as you look down at your lap.
"Okay, no, we're going to have a good time at this party, Eddie is going to apologize, you're going to forgive him and we're going to party until the fucking cops tell us to stop!" June encourages as she too your hand in hers.
