"Stay away from my sister"

I wake just before dawn, and sit up, stretching my tired muscles. Breathing deeply, i take in the scent of Chyenne beside me and I turn, expecting to see her asleep beside me. Instead I see an empty space and i feel a twinge of disappointment.

Pushing it away, i stand and walk to my closet, grabbing new clothes and getting ready for training. Of course she went back to Nicholas room, Jake. She was her guest. I think to myself as i walk out of my room.

The house is silent, almost everyone's still asleep. As I walk toward the stairs quietly I hear whispering from my sisters room, Chyenne and Nichola preparing for early morning lessons with my mother, no doubt.

For a second i'm tempted to knock and go in just to see Chyenne but the sunlight shines through the window, reminding me that I am supposed to be at training in less then ten minutes. I'll see her later, I think to myself, running down the stairs and out the door, jogging quickly toward the training area.

Julius stares at me, his green eyes calculating my every move, trying to figure out where I'm going to attack him.  His lesson from yesterday runs through my mind and I look at his side as I throw myself at his legs, knocking them out from under him and landing on top of him, my hand at his neck as though I'm delivering the death blow.

"Youre dead." I say, jumping off of him quickly.

We've been practicing all morning and I've beaten him every time. "Very good, Jacob."

"Yes, very impressive."

I jump at the sound of my fathers voice behind us, and turn, standing straighter. "Father, what are you doing here?"

"I came to check on your progress," He smiles at me, turning to Julius. "He's come far."

Julius smiles back. "You might want to watch out for this one Francis. He'll soon be ready to take your spot as Alpha."

Father laughs loudly, tossing his head back and drawing the attention of a few young beta's practicing with their mentors. "Well you should be more scared then I, Julius. He'll be after your position first!"

Julius smiles and ruffles my hair. "He'll make a great deputy one day, that much is true."

I smile sheepishly just as a voice calls out from a training group across the clearing. "Of course he will. The alpha's kid gets special treatment."

I turn, angry, and I lock eyes with Saemus, a beta only four months older than me. "I dont get special treatment."

"Really? Cause your moves are weak and slow. You wouldn't last a second in a real fight."

"Perhaps you'd like to prove your theory, young one?" Father says stepping away from me.

I glance at him, unsure whether he's being serious but the look on his face says that he is. He nods at me, encouraging me to step forward and fight. I look over at Julius, who pats me twice on my shoulder as he too, steps backwards, following my fathers lead.

Taking a deep breath I step forward, meeting Saemus's gaze. He smiles cockily, probably expecting an easy victory over the "privileged" alpha's son. Too bad for him Julius doesn't go easy on me and trains me like he would train a seasoned beta.

I study Saemus as he circles me, clearly trying to find my weak spot. He favors his left side over his right, limping slightly. Gotcha, I think to myself.

When he throws himself at me I step to my right, kicking him hard in his left knee and sending him sprawling on the hard earth. Without missing a beat, I spin on my heel and kick him twice in his stomach before he knocks me over, punching me in my stomach, growling.

I flip him off, climbing on top of him and punching him twice in his stomach, winding him. We wrestle for a few more seconds before I get a good grip on him, slamming him hard into the ground, my hand wrapped around his throat. "Not so weak now, huh?" I murmur before I let him go, standing up.

Father walks over, obviously proud. "Nice job, Jacob."  He says. "Very good job."

Julius walks over, smiling. "Not so slow and defenseless now huh, Sae?" He says watching me pull Saemus off the ground.

Saemus shakes his head. "No sir. Sorry, Jake." He turns to me.

I shake my head. "It's okay."

"Can you show me how you do the flip thing?" He asks, his green eyes glowing. "That was cool."

I look at father and when he nods I lead Saemus to a corner of the clearing, explaining how I do the flip.

                              *******************************************

"Jacob," Father walks over to me and my new group of friends. They all bow their heads in respect when he walks over. "Its time to go. We have to wash up before supper and than you are to join the dusk patrol."

"You're on patrol tonight?" Saemus's cousin Kaela asks, her blue eyes excited.

 "Yes."

"So am I. We should run together." She says, smiling brightly. "It'll be fun"

I nod, hearing my father chuckle softly behind me and wondering why he finds her invitation amusing. "Sure Kaela."

She smiles. "See you later Jacob."

I turn with father and follow him out of the clearing. As soon as we're alone he cracks up laughing. "What's so funny?" I say looking up at him.

"You're turning into quite the ladies man Jacob." He says, grinning. "Is she special to you?"

"Kaela? No. She's Saemus's cousin." I say, disgusted by the thought. "And she's mated to Niklaus."

He nods thoughtfully. "You should be mated soon. Have any of the girls sparked your interest?"

In my head I see Chyenne, sitting across from me and talking about her family. "I think so."

He looks at me. "Are you going to tell me her name?"

 "Probably not." I admit, smiling.

He laughs. "Alright." Patting my head, he starts jogging slowly towards our home. "We should get home before your mother starts to worry where we are."

I follow him, aware that I'm probably filthy, and we reach the house in less than five minutes.

"We're home, Bella." Father calls, walking into the living room.

I follow him, closing the front door behind us, and I see Chyenne, my sister and another girl who looks very much like Chy sitting at the table while mother walks over to father and kisses him softly.

Chyenne looks up when I walk in and I can tell that se too, is thinking about our chat last night. She smiles, a blush creeping up her cheeks and I grin back.

A soft growl catches my attention and my eyes flick over to the girl, who must be her sister. "I'm sorry, I'm being rude." I say walking over. "I'm Jacob."

She stands, bowing her head respectfully, before looking up at me, her hazel eyes hard and guarded. "I'm Kelsey, Chyenne's my little sister."

I nod. "Nice to meet you."

She stares at me for a second before leaning close to me. "You may be able to do whatever you want, Alpha's son. But do yourself a favor, and stay away from my sister. If you hurt her, you'll regret it."

I pull away, keeping my face smooth. "I'll keep that in mind." I say coolly.

Chyenne glances at me, confused, but I turn to my father. "May I be excused? I need to wash up before supper."

He nod and I walk away, wondering whether Chyenne will ever be able to talk to me again.
