Midnight Walks

The rain starts a little before midnight and I hear my father complain to my mother about having to cancel the dawn patrol, in their bedroom down the hall.

Jake, Chyenne whispers through our link.

Yes?

Are we.. She pauses for a second and I hear her heartbeat speed up as somebody walks into her bedroom. The link is silent for a moment until her door closes again. Are we still meeting up?

If you wish. I think back, praying that she still wants to go. If you'd rather not because of the rain-

No, no. I want to go. She cuts me off, her voice slightly panicked as though the thought of cancelling causes physical pain.

I smile slightly. Than I will see you soon, my love.

I can almost feel her smile as she answers. Okay.

The link closes and I lay in bed for what feels like forever staring at the ceiling.

When my parents are silent for a long time I stand, walking to my door and listening carefully to the sounds of my house. Nichola's breathing is slow and soft, almost so quiet I can't hear it. She went to sleep early, she still has early morning lessons with our mother tomorrow. Father snores loudly in his bedroom and mothers quieter breathing beside him confirms that everyone in my house is asleep.

Quietly, I walk over to my window and open it silently, jumping out. The second I hit the ground I crouch low, looking up at my parents window, scared they may have heard me. After a moment I stand, silently thanking the pouring rain for blocking the sound of my landing, and take off around the back of the house and into the trees leading to the lake.

I slow when I can see the lake through the trees, and I look carefully. She isn't there yet, so I pull my soaking shirt off and wring the water out of it. The rain isn't letting up so I drop it, running my hands through my hair.

"Ahem," I spin around and see her behind me, her blonde hair soaking wet in its ponytail, her hazel eyes sparkling, and a smile on her face.

"Hi," I say lamely, taking her in. Raindrops fall down her cheeks and one lingers by her lips. Her lips.. I think to myself. I want them.

Her eyes stare into mine and I watch them travel down to my bare chest, widening slightly as the sight of it. "You.. dont have a shirt on.." She whispers quietly, looking back up quickly before looking at my chest again.

I blush, suddenly self-conscious and lean down to pick up my soaking shirt. "I.. I'm sorry.. The rain.. it soaked my shirt.. I.. I apologize.."

She steps forward, grabbing my hand before I can pick up the shirt. "No its.. its okay."

I nod, staring at the ground before she pulls my face up, touching her lips to mine. Immediately I relax, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her against me, kissing her back softly. Her arms wrap around my neck and she presses against me as I lick her bottom lip, asking for entrance. She opens her mouth against mine, kissing me back, and again our mouths are moving in perfect synch as rain falls around us, soaking us.

When I pull back, my heart is beating a million miles a minute and she lays her head on my chest, listening to my heartbeat. After a few minutes I kiss her head, slipping my hand into hers, and we start walking slowly along the edge of the lake.

"Is this going to be our new thing?" She asks quietly, glancing up, her normally hazel eyes glowing in the moonlight, proof her wolf is going to wake soon, and she smiles. "Midnight walks?"

I grin at her, squeezing her hand gently. "To midnight walks." I agree.
