I run with Kaela and the rest of the patrol back towards the village, laughing as I pull ahead of her.

"No fair Jacob." She yells, as she struggles to catch up. "You have longer legs than I do."

"You're just jealous." I laugh when we stop, breathing hard.

Saemus walks up to me. "I have to get straight home, I've got chores."

I nod. "Okay."

Kaela walks with me to my house, she has a meeting with my father to schedule her and her mates wedding. Once we're out of earshot of the rest of the dawn patrol she turns to me. "So, is it true?"

"Is what true?" I ask her, completely confused.

She pushes me lightly, obviously she thinks I'm hiding something from her. "Come on, Jacob. The whole patrol was talking about it before you showed up."

I look at her, utterly lost and pull her to a stop. "What are you talking about?"

"Is there something going on with you and the new girl?" She asks wagging her eyebrows at me.

"Oh god," I sigh, turning away to hide my smile. "We are not having this conversation Mikaela."

"Oh my god, there is!" She says giddily. "You two have been flirting! I knew it!"

I chuckle and turn to her. "Hush, would you? My mum's home."

We walk up my driveway and she starts laughing. "Is she your mate, like Sae said?"

"Honestly? I don't know." I say. But a quiet voice in my head whispers yes.

We walk in and I call for my father, hearing my mother giving a lesson in the living room.

Chyenne's in there, I can tell by the way her scent hangs in the air and I smile to myself. Kaela giggles, looking over my shoulder, obviously seeing her in there.

"Uh-oh." She whispers, leaning into me to hide her mouth. "Watch out, your mates in the next room."

"Shush," I smile as my father walks down the stairs. "Hello, father."

He nods to Kaela. "You may go up to my study you two."

I lead Kae up to fathers study, impatient because I want to go back downstairs to see Chyenne.

"You're fidgety." Kae mumbles. "Why?"

I shrug. "Just because."

"Oh relax. She'll be there when you go back down." She smiles. "You'll survive five minutes."

"Haha," I say. The front door opens and closes as my father makes his way back up the stairs.

"You may go now, son." He says to me, leading Kae into his study and closing the door.

I jog down the stairs and into the living room, but nobody remains except my mother and Nichola.

"She went home, Jake." Nich says quietly as she walks past me. "She left as soon as mum finished talking to her."

My heart drops in disappointment and I nod slowly, turning and walking back up the stairs slowly, wondering why she left without seeing me.

What did I do...

"Jacob!" Fathers voice comes from down the hall.

I jump up and walk to my door, opening it. "Yes, sir?"

"Head over to the Andrews's house. Let them know that I would like all three of them to join us for dinner tonight."
