The matches went by quickly.
Ashido beat Aoyama, which wasn't a surprise. The sparkly boy had some useful traits, but was mostly just a pain in the ass to deal with, so Y/N wasn't too bothered about it.
Tokoyami beat Yaoyorozu, which was exactly how Y/N had predicted it. The tall girl's quirk wasn't suited for direct combat, but more a supporting role.
The two hulks known as Kirishima and Tetsutetsu gave Y/N an interesting fight, going at it with fury. They eventually knocked each other out, and had to resort to a tiebreaker, which Kirishima won.
Uraraka went up against Bakugo, which Y/N guessed would end in a matter of seconds. But the gravity girl actually put up a decent show, setting a trap that unfortunately didn't work. "Bakugo is powerful, but he's not the smartest."
After the second round of battles began with Todoroki going up against Midoriya, Y/N excused himself from the class and made his way to the nearest set of stairs.
The h/c boy took the stairs down, pushing into a participants' only room. Nobody was in there, so Y/N left it and went out through a different door.
He emerged inside the same gateway he'd entered into the arena last time, with the same attendant standing there.
"I saw your match - well done!" The attendant spoke excitedly. "You're such a good fighter."
Y/N nodded modestly in response, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "Who am I up against this time?"
The attendant checked something on a tablet. "Tenya Iida. Probably one of the fastest contestants."
Y/N nodded, thinking to himself aloud. "Iida is probably gonna try to use his speed to knock me out, so I have to be prepared to dodge him. Besides that, with my strength, I should be able to beat him."
The attendant groaned. "One of the bad things about this job is that I can't actually see what is going on in person. I have to watch it through the screens, even though I'm right next to the arena."
The boy grinned snarkily in response. "Make sure to watch my game - I wanna show off my skills."
The attendant perked up as the usually noisy crowd went completely silent. He gestured Y/N over to his tablet. "Look here."
Todoroki's left side was completely engulfed in flames, burning away the ice that had formed on his right. He was smiling, and oddly enough Midoriya was smiling right back.
"He's using his left for once!"
Y/N expected the fight to finish there and then. Todoroki was one of the strongest people in the school even only using half his quirk. With him using his full potential...
Apparently Midoriya had other ideas, because he went on the offensive, diving over a huge layer of ice to lunge at the other boy.
Midnight was screaming something, then several walls of concrete rose between the two teens, and a flash of blinding light cut off the camera's feed.
Y/N stared at the screen as he felt a powerful shockwave ricochet in from the arena, slamming into him and pushing him back a few steps. Clouds of dust and small pieces of concrete followed, coating the floor in a fine layer.
The screen flickered, switching to another camera's feed that hadn't blacked out. It revealed a ginormous plume of smoke rising from the centre of the arena.
It slowly cleared, Midnight appearing from the haze. Her arm had a nasty cut on it from the debris, and she looked a little shaken.
Midoriya was pressed against the wall of the arena, far out of bounds. Both his arms and his fingers were broken, and after a second, the unfortunate boy plunged to the ground. A medical team rushed on site, loading him onto a stretcher and taking him away.
