Chapter 4

POV: Isaac

I had no clue what to expect when Corbin said that we weren't gonna hunt on animals.
But this?

We stop walking when we reach what seems to me a huge water pool in the middle of the woods.

Connor takes charge. "Everyone aim your arrow at the water!"

I, just like everyone else points their arrow at the water.

Not knowing what to expect but everyone else seems to know exactly what they are doing.

Everyone is deadly serious focused on the water. Except for Jayce but even he knows he needs to stay quiet for this.

My hands start to get sweaty, I don't know what's coming out of the water but to think that we need 5 people to hunt it down can't be good.

After waiting what seems to be forever there suddenly starts to come some bubbles into the water. There is something in the water.
I watch everyone their grip getting tighter on their bow. Knowing that the time has come.

Suddenly a blue tail shows up out of the water.
Jayce, who seems to have even a harder time than me holding his bow shoots at the tail.

The creature within seconds has realized what's going on and grabs with it's claws Jayce leg. Pulling it into the water. Connor and Lex immediately drop their weapons and pull Jayce   Out of it's grip.

The creature lets go off Jayce his leg and swims away.

I manage to say out of breath
"What the hell was that?"

Connor who is bandaging Jayce his leg answers
"It's a mermaid"

Connor lifts Jayce on his back and takes him back to the camp.
Lex starts to collect all the bows while I still stare at the water.

"What are you doing?" Corbin asks

"She is still in there"

Corbin chuckles "very funny but she probably already made her way back to her group."

Lex who is about to walk away says "Yeah, we had bad luck today. But hey maybe we will catch one tomorrow"

Suddenly the same bubbles show up in the water.
Corbin yells "Lex, Isaac, grab your bow. If she attacks us now we will end up more hurt than Jayce!"

I reach to the bow that I laid next to the edge of the water. The moment my fingers touch the wood, I notice 2 sparkling blue eyes coming out of the water.

When my eyes meet hers I immediately feel connected to her. It's like the world disappears and all you wanna do is drown into her ocean blue eyes. She lifts her hand on my neck and pulls me softly towards the water.

But than the illusion disappears when Corbin shoots an arrow through her heart. I fall into the ground and watch the water color red with her blood.

"You okay?" Corbin asks while pulling me off the ground.

"Yeah I think so, I don't know what happened-"

"Mermaids can enchant people in a trance. Without you knowing she would have lead you into the water if i didn't shoot her"

"What would have happened if I followed her into the water?"

"No one lives to tell. No one has ever came back out of the water."

Me, Lex and Corbin go back to the camp.
Lex is carrying the dead mermaid on his shoulder like some sort of trophy.

When we reach the camp some people take the mermaid of Lex his arms.
I watch everyone get busy.
Corbin starts to cut some pineapples and Lex starts to go back to sharpening his arrow.
Seems like it's gonna be mermaid for dinner.

"So how do you like it here?"
I turn around and notice Peter standing next to me.

"Besides almost dying today, it's a pretty great place you have."

Peter starts laughing " oh, did You went hunting?"

"Yes" I roll my eyes "a little warning would have been nice"

Peter playfully punches me and says "I knew you had some guts. You will fit in here good"

He lays his hand on my shoulder and says "if you need anything, anything at all. You can always come to me."

I smile "thanks"

As I watch him walk away I think about the mermaid.
I hope she is gonna taste good.
